I think this talking dictionary is amazing. It does everything I could ask for, right in my iphone, without having to be connected to the internet. The three ways of looking up a word is an especially useful feature, as is the one that allows you to see a word in different everyday thai fonts.
The publishers of this dictionary are the same one who publish all of the self-teach books and CDs, so they understand what an english person learning thai is going to need and want, without overloading us with information. I give it five out of five stars.

LingoPal is pretty good, however they have only developed it for a female speaker. For the Thai module, they use the female pronoun ฉัน instead of ผม.
I have the full version, and it's really cool. I was at Beach Club one night, and there, I was switching between Vietnamese, Tagalog and Russian.

You need either an iPad or an iPhone in order to use that product. Just launch the App Store on your son's iPad and download it from the iPad.
If you are using your Asus laptop to sync with your son's iPad, then simply connect your iPad to your Asus and sync it up to transfer the file over to the iPad.

For whole sentences, you could use Google translate. It's not the best, but it's better than nothing.
