A reader wrote on Stickman's site.. Why Learn Thai?
In the 2nd last paragraph, he claims that learning Thai has no value outside of Thailand, well, I have to disagree, as there are lots of Thai girls outside of Thailand, especially, the ones in Hong Kong and Singapore or any of the various countries where you might encounter them.
It’s obvious, I think, that unlike Spanish or even Brazilian Portuguese, Thai is of almost no value outside Thailand. Thus, there had to be a very good and compelling reason for learning it; otherwise, it’s going to be an enormous investment for rather minimal payoff. There are ten thousand things to do with one’s time in our short lives, and investing in really learning a language, as opposed to fiddling—and I do mean fiddling—with it by studying a couple of hours a week to pick up common phrases and not too much more is just not worth it.
