George Soros was in Singapore last week and suggests that there will be a global recession sparked by a collaspe of US home prices (similar to the 1980 collaspe).
This was backed up by some World Bank analysts who believe that the collaspe will be sparked by a drop in the US dollar to mittigate the Foreign Deficit issues the US faces. The current thought is that the drop in the US dollar will drive foreign money from the dollar to the Euro.
It might be time to start hedging your currencies...

Soros idea is based on a widespread belief and prediction that a global recession or part global recession is imminent and parts of asia would suffer quite badly as a result unless specific SE asian countries take more care of their economies and try and encourage slower growth.

Foerign exchanges in the UK are currently offering a measly 63 baht for £1 GBP and in Bangkok last week exchange was down to around the 65 baht at some exchanges.

you can still get 70+ bahts to a pound. But anything above 60 bahts, how can you possible complain with western incomes between 3 to 5 times more than most indo-chinese incomes - put things into context and get a raincheck

lol Autthaya8... Yes western incomes are higher than in parts of SE asia (Singapore excluded) but standards of living in most of SE asia is also cheaper. Many 'westerners' end up with a relatively low amount of free income after paying for taxes, food, energy bills etc etc. Then there are the cost of the flights over to SE asia themselves. These people save up for many months or years to visit a place like Thailand and getting a few extra baht to their pound or dollar really is important and does make a difference!
Your generalisation of western incomes is only matched by the ignorance in your suggestion that 'westerners are rich so whats the big deal'....Shame on you!

The Thai Baht is sold by people like thomas cook on the presumption of ignorance. I'd never buy a single baht in the UK.
The exchanges selling at 65?...hasn't dropped below 70 in a long while as far as I have seen...wanna name one?...i'll go check.

Would never buy from travel agents in UK either but that doesnt stop them giving a very low rate for the pound.
Exchange on Soi 7 (off sukhumvit) near to the new wave pool bar, outisde the tailors. My friend is staying in Landmark and he told me he only got 65 baht to the pound last Friday.

I dont see how money exchangers in Thailand can give more baht to the pound than its currently trading at. According to http://www.xe.com you are only currently getting 70.4 baht to the pound and over the weekend it was 69 baht to the pound. Take off the commission made by the foreign exchange places and you will be ahrd pushed to get over 70 baht at the moment.
Im therefore impresed to hear that you can still get above 70 baht to the pound in Thailand.
