The fee when I use my ATM card is about 4 or 5 bucks, 2 for my bank and the rest goes to the Thai bank and bank network. I usually take out the maximum amount, so it's a reasonable price to pay for the convenience.

On the issue of amounts.... what determines the maximum amount that can be withdrawn in a day from an ATM? My Thai account lets me take out max. 40k per day. I was surprised when one day I found that a 20 year old Thai friend could withdraw up to 100k per day from her account. Is it my Bank? Is it because I am not a Thai citizen? What gives?

It just depends on your bank. Just ask them before you head over here.
Regarding Thai banks, it depends on the type of ATM card you choose (which varies from bank to bank). A regular Bangkok Bank bualuang card can only get 20k a day, a premier bualuang can get 50k a day, and a Be1st card can get more I think. I'm not sure as I almost never withdraw money from the bank.

Bank of Asia has a 40 K limit for normal days, and 80 K limit for weekends. They figure you'd be out shopping then.

I think mine is 50k but i'm not %100 on that. (TFB) More for my Kuwait card, but if I told you how much, i'd have to kill you lol!!!

PR, I will have to check again. I have a bualuang premier card from BB and I always thought it was 40k. Would I be so stupid that I tried 3 times 20k and because it didn't deliver the 3rd time I never checked for 10k extra? Damn! Maybe I am so stupid.
Ok. I will try sometime soon when I need to get money fast to pay a bribe at 3am (kidding kidding) and I will report back on my stupidity or lack thereoff

My Thai Farmers ATM / Visa Electron was set when I applied....they asked me....I said 40,000 a day max...could have been up to 100,000

Update on Bangkok Bank's ATM card. Now with the premier and Be1st cards (I forgot to ask about the normal one!), you can withdraw up to 150,000 B/day!!! Scary!
