If you were an Arms dealer in Thailand, then you would have some powerful army friends. If I'm Bassgod, I would run as far away from you as possible.
I was not so lucky. I had to pay lots of money to "buy" my "friends" to help with the business that I was doing in Thailand. However, we all know that's how it works in Thailand. If you wanna make money, you better make sure those guys get some money too.

Anyone who assumed that I was blowing smoke about my friends here, and they are genuine friends socially as well as professionally, and I still make myself useful to them when they need some help or advice, well, anyone would be assuming incorrectly. I don't bullshit. I don't have to. It's as simple as that.

The ordinary situation is that every entertainment business, even the totally straight ones like pubs etc that do not sell girls, pay the police a not very spectacular sum monthly, usually to the inspector at the local station. This money is sliced up between all the police divisions and ministry of interior and so on, it's quite a tidy sum collectively.
Routinely, the cops will schedule a pre-arranged "bust" about annually, someone is designated to go to court and pay a fine, all that is for the sake of appearances and to generate good law & order statistics. The actual owners are never involved in this farce.
Obviously I can't comment about my own business, however, as you suggest the five years of unhampered prosperity and without any such 'show' busts even, is suggestive to anyone who knows how the game is played here.
Anyway these days I am spending most of my time and attention on my new distillery project in a neighboring country, all arranged through the 4-star Thai military liaison officer out of Thaksin's office and the Defense Ministry. And he is junior to my old friends. I usually meet them at the Army Golf Course for lunch, or the Royal Hotel if they are working at Galahome that day -- retired but still senior advisors to the Minister (Chavalit).
Couldn't do the distillery in Thailand, the old liquor monopoly is too strong.

Unusually I find myself in complete agreement with CJ. NOT re "whacking" etc (great phrase for someone in the "dom" scene CJ  ) but going back to the original topic of the thread. 500 for ST and 1000 for LT is just plain mean. Like CJ I get thoroughly pissed off with bro's who go on and on about getting it for 2 baht or whatever.
I have posted before that most of us make $50+ an hour - for gods sake show some decency and pay a decent rate.
To earn 50 bucks you put in a little time and maybe a little sweat - THINK about what these girls give to you for a whole lot longer.
The fact that some girls may only make X baht is not relevant - would YOU sell your soul for a few dollars an hour?? If you pay peanuts becasue a girl is (maybe genuinly) down on her luck then you are just taking advantage of people and as far as I am concerned people like that are about as low as they come.
As a "forum" we should strive to achieve a fair wage for a fair days (or 2 hours) work FOR ALL - no more and no less. Pay what they are WORTH not what you like to say you can "get away with".
If you're living on 2k a month or you're on a budget, fair enough - just do a little LESS - try one girl every two days or something.

Hey brother Big D, I hope you don't think I was putting you down for choosing this time of year to visit LOS. Believe me I understand perfectly well why you'd want to wait until now to make your return visit. I myself will be heading that way next week end so I of all people understand wanting to save as much money as possible ( That is as far as food and hotels and travel expenses are concerned ). I only brought up your choice of when to visit to make the point that this is the time of year when prices are at their lowest in LOS. I agree with you that to most of the ladies in LOS we farangs are not considered special ( Although I think your percentages are rather high, but I'll take your word for it ), but the majority of my past post don't have anything to do with them because I try to stay away from generalizations about all Thai women because I've never met all Thai women. My post usually have more to do with those rare ladies in LOS, the less than 1% that you speak of. The ones that really do want to take a chance on us foreign guys and who really want to make a sincere effort to try and make a better life for them selves. Your friend Pen is absolutely correct. Customers are not special to the girls, and why should they be. They are customers after all and most of the ladies will probably never see these guys ever again. However I bet that if your friend Pen were to meet a really nice foreigner who treated her like the person she is instead of as a playmate then I would be willing to bet that by the 3rd day that they spend together that she would probably no longer have her hand out waiting for payment. That she would be having her very first boyfriend experience ever and telling him that she no longer wants his money. After all you did say that you were the first customer she ever had who came back to see her, and would it be safe to say that you never made it all the way to day 3 with her. It's no wonder that most of the ladies in LOS have such a jaded outlook where we foreigners are concerned. Treating a human being like a commodity can have that affect on some people. Go figure. You speak of the GF/BF illusion and this makes me sad because I would so much like to see you experience the joy of the real thing for once rather than the make believe that you have come to expect during your visits. However I just don't see that happening for you because I honestly don't think that that's what you want. Again I don't mean to offend you but every time I read one of your post the word that comes into my mind is not boyfriend, it's butterfly, and if that's your thing then more power to you and I support you in your beliefs and in your life choices. However even though they sound similar and they both have the exact same number of letters they do happen to be two totally different words and I just don't think any of the brothers can think of themselves as the former if the ladies consider them to be the latter. You also mention never having started a relationship with a future girlfriend where you give her money for services rendered on the first night. That's great brother Big D, but I seriously doubt that very many of the brothers have ever gotten lucky with a potential new girlfriend back in their part of the world on the very first date ( Well maybe brothers BK and Nokna  ). And even those that did, they may not have paid them for services rendered but I guarantee you that they spent some serious money on dinner and whatever else before they hit a home run. However in LOS I guess you can say that you've hit that home run if you've made it to the 3rd day with her and she no longer expects you to pay her for services rendered. To me that's the way the girlfriend experience begins there in LOS. Nothing about the way things are done there can in any way be compared to the way things are done in our part of the world. Just my humble opinion. Take it for what it's worth. By the way brother Big D I look forward to your next post that you said would be forthcoming but I'm still waiting to see if I owe you a public apology on this forum. I told you I would apologize to you in front of all the brothers if you could tell me of even one time that a Thai lady told you that you didn't have to pay her and that if you were to see her again that you wouldn't have to pay her then either. I didn't see anything about that on your previous post so I will assume that it will be included in your follow up post. I look forward to reading it and I don't have the slightest problem admitting when I'm wrong or apologizing for my mistakes. Peace

Thanks Spider, that is precisely the sensibility I was trying my best to communicate.
The difference between what one side of this argument is talking about and what the other side proposes is like $5 to $20. Does that truly stress out anyone's budget for an evening? Really! It's the price of a movie theatre ticket in the states, or a Big Mac and a coke, a necktie, or as someone already said, a good pair of socks. A paperback book. A short taxi ride. Come ON.
This is just so petty, so niggardly, so stingy. That is indefensible.
I am not advocating being a chump, I am advocating being a human being, having a heart, that's all. I am appalled that some of the brethren seem to think that 1990 prices are their God-given right and that getting away with paying such prices is evidence that the prices were valid. Bad economic times are exactly when you should be helping the ladies out a little more, not a little less.
By the way I don't own a bar, I don't run a whorehouse, I do not manage prostitutes, Dommes are not prostitutes and we do not offer sex. And the brethren are not likely guests at my house. In that sense I have no dog in this fight, but as a Bangkok resident human being and fan of Thai girls I do.
And I walk the walk as well as talk the talk.
