It costs me 1% to get AmEx Traveller's checks in my country.  Do you think I will have to spend more when changing them back into USD?

most of the money changers do charge a small fee for TCs

I used to get free TCs and used them for years.. I find that ATMs are cheaper and easier ..

I bring two and make sure they are not together just in case I lose my wallet ..

I also use cash too .. you get a good rate on US$100 bills and I assume that large denominations of the Pound and Euro would be similar.

I don't really understand the question. What country? Why are you changing them to $? A clearer question please?

ATMs have their own charges and their own risks.

Travellers checks: the exchange rate is higher for them than for TTs or for US$100 notes. The stamp duty is small, i.e., trivial.

It seems it's only me who cannot make head nor tail of his question.

I get travelers cheques for free from my bank (well you know what I mean) so I bring them along.  It is somewhat of a hassle because you have to show your passport (which means you have to carry your passport with you) but it is the safest.  The charge for the cashing of a t.cheque is 23bht per cheque, so for a $100 cheque (about 4,300bht) , you lose 23bht.  Some Money Exchanges wont exchange t.cheques at certain times during the day and you have to find another one.  Cash is the easiest only if you lose it you are S.O.L.  and you get less than a t.cheque.  However, if you have any local connections, they can take you to some (back alley) places that give you a higher rate (probably the same if not higher than t.cheques).  I dont know about ATMs.  Either way, we are not talking vast differences so whatever is easier for you and makes you feel comfortable is what you should go with.
