cupidy has a lot going for it as others have already said, but the one thing that I find annoying is the goddam lift. it's small and slow. okay they've tried, because there's a young lift operator in it, but you can wait more than 5 minutes for it to turn up and then it's packed with girls, customers, cleaners and towel baskets....
you are on the clock once you pay so the lift wait is out of that and it kinda spoils the momentum....
sherbert and delilah in same building are on a different lift bank and not so affected imho.

The lift is a royal pain-in-the-ass alright... I was reminded of Shoke's post when I was in there again yesterday. If I remember right the building was originally designed to be a hotel and later converted to its present use and there was some safety problem with the main bank of elevators so this small (service?) elevator became the main access from the Cupidy reception area to the rooms. I kept thinking what the fire evacuation plan might look like, since the building is 18 stories high....
But then ms ning put her mouth around my ranger and I forgot 
Same excellent attitude/service but the place was DAMN quiet and the girls were complaining bitterly about the lack of business... Nick the papasan blames it on SARS.

There is a fire exit staircase at the back of the building ...really small one ..i believe it can accomodate only one person running for his life at a time....I used to "exit" there to receive calls from my wife whille there !!! Haha!!

Called into Cupidy on Saturday evening and their were about 4 very cute girls I would have chosen, but was not really in the mood for actually doing the deed, just having a perv on the way to Nana for a real perv. Anyway papsan quoted 2500 in the tank and 3500 on the side. I told him that was a crap price for tourists, he asked if I lived here and asked where etc. He then consequently offered 2000 and 2500, but the kicker was, 'I will give you thai price if you give me a little something, tip' seems that what they might try out is, first hit you up as a newbie for the big kill and if you bawk, offer you less but make out he is doing you a favour and request a tip for it.
A month or so ago, I forget the exact prices quoted then, but I do remember them saying that they do not charge farang charge, but upstairs do. So seems that it depends on the papasan you get, they may well in deed be pocketing the difference of the inflated price if they get away with it with the newbie, possibly split it with the cashier etc. So many scams, so little time.

Cupidy seems to be keen on trying to rip off tourists.....
I recall my one and only time there. I had asked the driver to take me to Meree based on a good tip. Was still a rookie so had no idea where I was really. Driver instead dropped me off at Cupidy. When I realized what was going on, I told the the papa sans who had come out to greet me that I wasn't paying for the taxi tip since I had asked to go to a different place. "If you don't agree, I'll be on my way" Papa san soon agreed and said come inside. Get in there and just like duck, was quoted something like 3,000. I said the place I was TRYING to go was charging 1,800. Papa san said, 'too low, how about 2,700' To which I said, "good bye". Of course papa san soon grabbed me and said...'ok ok, 1,800.
Did wind up with one of the best soapies I've ever had...... but damn this place is a scam joint.

I've had the same experiences there also. The papasans almost force you to play hardball price wise. I don't like doing business like that. I like the place but because of the price gouging did not visit Cupidy this last trip.
Also hate it when the papasan asks for a tip. Its not a tip but a shakedown when requested.

Ouch! CalEden hit the sore spot for me. Me and the Bandit hit Cleopatra last week. I took a sideline who asked me for a tip in exchange for great service as we were just settling into the tub. Hmmm...lemme see now...I thought I just paid 3k baht for a great service? Alarm bells started to jingle but I agree as in, "we'll see honey."
Well, by the time we've made it to the bed she informs me her rent is due the enxt day and it would be really jiffy if I gave her 2k baht, since that way in one shebang she'd have her rent covered. Damn! needless to say it was really difficult to enjoy what followed and resist her gouging. I gave her 500 when I left but still don't feel right about that, given that she was so greedy in her demands.
Now, I'm seriously thinking of exiting the next time an MP girl brings up the tip issue so pointedly and so early. It's a giant red flag, is it not?

You can make a fuss out of it and change the girl. Just put your clothes on and go downstairs to tell the papasan and change the girl.
What I did previously was to put on my clothes without even saying anything to the girl and went downstairs to complain....
And the next chick was so eager to please after all the fuss that I made that she gave me a realyy good f_ck!!

As for the general question of scamming you just need to play the game as that is all it is.
I have lived and worked in the ME and travelled to Asia regularly over the last 20 odd years and i never ever accept the first price anywhere.Bargaining is part of the fun and being "ripped off" is part of the learning curve.
My problem is when i go back to Australia i still try to bargain for everything and i get some very strange responses but it never hurts to ask and if you don't ask you will never know.
I was in Dubai a few weeks back and met a couple of nice Chinese girls and they asked for 10,000baht ST for the two of them, I smiled and then started some hardball negotiating and eventually they were had for 2000 baht and good value it was too. I did it in a friendly manner and was casual about it.
In third world countries most things are up for negotiation.
