Trader Vic's at the Marriott Riverside (not the one on Sukhumvit Soi2) do a good Sunday brunch with live jazz and free flow drinks (wine, beer etc). Last time I went there was a British barman serving special cocktails next to the outside BBQ and every time we went past to the buffet he persuaded us to have a different one. Don't remember getting home that afternoon!

Still it sounds nice, may well check in January.\

can't remember of any foie gras in Sukkhothai brunch... Almost lost all mood when faced with pacific oysters... look good but tasteless... they could try and afford fine de claires... otherwise it was a nice experience with a very large sashimi buffet and great meat.. got pretty drunk with the wine as well... guess next brunch we should give The Regent a try...

Anyone who has tried the Trader Vic, Sheraton and Four Season Brunch who could give their impressions on each?

I am a regular at the Sheraton since I am a member of the Sheraton Grand club. However, I haven't tried Trader Vic and Four Season Brunch so I was trying to find out what the specialty of each are. The Sheraton Brunch is excellent. It has a very nice spread of cold and hot selections, as well as a Thai food section and a Pasta section and a good selection of small lobsters, oysters, prawns and sushi. It does not have foie gras or caviar section as some other Brunch. I would have to say the Sheraton Brunch is one of the best brunch I have had anywhere in the world.

The only one that I think is better are the Brunch at the Westin Shanghai which has foie gras, caviar and Peking duck section. They also have very good french Champagne (according to my french buddy).

bitpump,
If you really want a great Sunday brunch, try the Shangri La Kowloon in HK. Worth the stop if you don't do anything else there. There are a lot of countries in the world, so I won't claim it is the best in the world but of the 25 or so countries I bounce around in, it is the best I have tried. The Westin Shanghai is OK but doesn't have the extensive Japanese high end food that the Shangri La in Kowloon has. I guess that doesn't matter if Japanese is not high on your list.

I second Lord Jim's

just the aquarium as you enter is almost worth the price

food is great, only mistake I made was to get full before the deserts.. damn..

also the Sheraton and Marriotts both have great brunches too..

all of them are very pricy, you can get similar food in the states for the same price.. but if you want to splurge, what the hell

The problem with these 5-star hotel brunches, at least the ones I have tried, is that they put out very impressive spreads that LOOK great, but the TASTE of the food is usually bland, bland, bland. I guess they have guests from all around the world, many of whom do not know or appreciate properly seasoned food.

Does anyone know of a brunch where the taste of the food lives up to its looks??

You're right: most hotel food is made in a factory like setting. No wonder it comes out mostly bland.

I'd say the Plaza Anthenee is above par in measuring up.

I would have to say that the Sunday Brunch at the Four Seasons is one of the best I have had anywhere on the planet! It's pricey at around 2000 Baht per person however if you time it right, you can have brunch, dinner and all the liquor you want for hours.

They have everything from Russian caviar and VoBKa, to some of the finest saki and shasimi, and great steaks, fresh seafood and on and on. The desserts are to die for too!

If you book for a table at say 11:30-12:30, you can have a few cocktails to start, a delicious meal then lounge around drink more then wrap up the afternoon with an early dinner. It is great for those lazy Sunday.

The Sulkhothai is nice but (IMHO) does not compare to the Seasons. Same is true for the others....
