I second this thing about not reading all the 19 pages. It would be nice if one of you "italian food - afficionados" could compliate the list with the top 5 italian restaurants. I have for good and bad turned my oldest son onto it ( it means I always pay) and now he is going on and on about where the italian restaurants are in BKK.

Anyone coming forward undertaking this act of culinary compassion?

Here is a very rough, unscientific, cull that I gleaned the other day from the earlier posts: These are based on several different reviewers and some go back a ways. Please note, I gathered these for purposes of having some suggestions to try, and left out ones where there seemed to be some consensus it wasn't worth it (or noted "pizza" only). In order of my interest level and information available:

"La Villa / Club Nove Wine Lounge", Thong Lor, Soi 9 (left hand comming from Sukh.) +66 (0) 2 712 9991 Expensive, stylish, but excellent, Boss is ex-Opera sommellier (Roberto?)

Fuzio, its above the 6th floor of the Mini-cooper Building on Ekamai Rd. (expensive) (very good)
http://www.thailandsbestrestaurants.com/2008/restaurants/fuzio.html

Antonio's Trattoria, 59/1 Soi Sawasdee, Sukhumvit Soi 31, Bangkok (02 258 4247) Excellent, small & cozy, good value

Pizzeria da luigi, Soi 25. homemade pastas are fantastic. (Nevermind the pizza) Lunch deal, 300 baht, starter, main, dessert and coffee.

Limoncello, Soi 11 (pizza, noisy)

Pomodoro in Emporium

Basilico on 20 (pizza)

Giusto - suk. soi 23
Bella Napoli -suk. soi 31
Mezzaluna - State Tower Silom rd
Fuzio- Thonglor soi 9?
Biscotti - Four Seasons hotel
Angelini - Shangri-La hotel
Gianni - Soi Thonson Ploenchit
Zanotti - Silom

Limoncello

24 medium lemons
2 bottles Everclear (750 ml) or VoBKa
9 cups water
3 cups sugar

1. Peel the lemons with a swivel-bladed peeler, taking care not to remove any of the white pith. (The pith gives an unpleasant bitter taste.) I always scrape off the remaining white pith after peeling all the lemons making sure that I don’t scrape into the peel. This takes about two hours, well worth it!
2.Put the lemon zests into a large jar with a tight fitting lid. Pour on the alcohol. Let it stand in a cool, dark area for two or three weeks, shaking the jar daily. I let it set for one week the first year, according to the recipe in the cookbook. Then the Italians(Giovanni) said to let it set for two weeks so I tried that the second year. This year I let it stand for three weeks and it turned out to be the best batch to date but I had also been cutting back on the sugar from 4 cups to 3 ½ cups and now to 3. The Sicilian Nuns prefer to let it stand until all the lemons have completely dissolved, about three months. I don’t have the patients for that!
3.When the lemon zests are pale and crisp, you’ve extracted all their oil. Discard the zests and strain the lemon-flavored alcohol through fine gauze or a cheesecloth. Repeat if necessary.
4.Make a sugar syrup. In a saucepan, combine the water and sugar and stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves and the syrup is clear. Let it clear to room temperature.
5.Stir the syrup into the infused alcohol. You can strain the liqueur again if necessary and let it stand for a week.

ok, now you have the secret, I can tell you tha tthis is the best stuff you will ever drink. give it a try and have some fun.

oh, one last thing, after it is ready, put it in the freezer before serving... let it get freezer cold, then serve it in shot glasses......

TL,

Sounds great. However, I don't see any mention of the peeled lemons after step 1. Do you add the peeled lemons AND zest in step 2?

you put the peel in the jar.... and any zest you have left.....keep the whit stuff out of it, thats the bitter part.

i only use the 151 everclear, better zip to my step after a few shots. easy to make, impress your friends, watch them get drunk. You will never buy store bought again.
