Some recommendations in no particular order in terms of price and/or quality but all of them offer value for money although some are a bit expensive(but the food is excellent) :
Giusto - suk. soi 23
Bella Napoli -suk. soi 31
Mezzaluna - State Tower Silom rd
Fuzio- Thonglor soi 9?
Biscotti - Four Seasons hotel
Angelini - Shangri-La hotel
Gianni - Soi Thonson Ploenchit
Zanotti - Silom
Contrazi, Villa and some others are not very good at offering value for money.
Others like basilico, Limoncello and La Piola are ok but somehow I always end up in one of the above list as my idea of value for money seems to get satisfied only there.

interesting list in that everyon ehas their own oopinion on "good" Italian.
A guy for New York has a different opinion than soemone form Europe..... so the lisr is solid, the goal is to try as many as possible to find what you like.
Like thin crust verses thick cruest pizza....... everyone has an opinion.....
But some tings I look for but can never find... my Dad is 87 and make shis own lemonchellelo...... nothing beats that. in fact he has cut me off...... Take stoo long to make and I drin kit all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reading this page I did look up for Snpark post as I suspected it was about Mezzaluna and bingo ! Expensive with small portions but very nice restaurant, one gets great view and decent service without the wandering loud photosnapping crowd that tends to disturb diners downstairs in Sirrocco (but last bill in Mezzaluna a couple of days ago was 25000 for 3 people although we sticked to modest wines, no dessert and only 1 billed starter. Even steeper than I recalled actually)

Nice to have you back. As you know I don't come to BKK that often, but when I do I make it a point to eat somewhere different every night. IMHO one of the only places that I got really ripped off was Mezalluna. I ha the same experience as you, although we were 8 and not 3. This was 4 years ago when Bhat was 45 to a dollar and it still cost us about bht 4000 each. At that price we still walked out hungry because the portions were so small. I have been coming to Bangkok since 1985 and italian food and italian restaurants have gone a lonng way since then, however Mezalluna to me is the worst for the money except maybe the ambience if you are into euro trash music and crowds. again IMHO Zanotti on Sala Dang is by far the best food and fo what it offers very reasonably priced. The only setback is it is very hard to get a table on fri or sat nights. I hope all the brothers who live in Bangkok, make it a point to enjoy Bangkok as much as us outsiders do when we are there for a short period of time.

Those in the upper Sukhumvit area might want to try the Italian restuarant Bacco on Soi 53. Same management as Basilico but higher grade items on the menu.

Sorry! I presently don't have the patience to read all 19 pages of this post; however I would like to recommend the following. The Hyatt Erawan (02 254 6295) has a program called "The Club at the Hyatt". It costs 6,000 BT per year. It gives the member between 15-50% off the restaurants and spa facilities at the Hyatt. They also include in this membership several discount coupons that entitle the member to free wine and really big discounts on a few dinners at their restaurants.
Included in this package are discounts for Spasso. I usually save about $300 per trip; so I see this membership as a "GIFT" from the Hotel.
I happen to like Spasso's food, and the "zoo like atmosphere" of Thai girls after dinner (after 11:00) is a truly great show.
For those of you who go out often, and wish to try out the several restaurants at the Hyatt, this membership will pay for itself in a couple of visits.
