As a expert on all foods!

I can recommend a steak from the Scottish breed Aberdeen Angus, it is quite expensive, but well worth it.

I have been to the German Beer Garden across the road from the entrance to Soi Cowboy quite a few times, they cook a fine steak, serve good beer and you don't have to go far to work it off!
What more can a man ask for?

I have brought all kinds of food to bkk in the past... but never steaks, but that is what I am going to do my next trip. Going to a GREAT butcher, have him pack me up the best, then keep it cold in ice packs and put it into my suitcase. Pull it out when I am there and take it to the local western style restruant I go to and have them grill them up for me. Just pay a 'grill fee'...... But I am bringing enough for my friends too that live there.

They will get the A-1 sauce from Villa or Tops and I bring the steaks. Still working on the times and how long the ice packs will hold. For around $20 a steak in the U.S. I can get a great cut. At Steakone in Nana I had the "U.S. Ribeye" for 1,500 baht and thought it was ok at best.

People more or less like what they are used to, and since I am American and have always eaten hormone injected, force fed beef, this is my beef of choice.

Several cuts I like.... Ribeye, NY, Portorhouse (combo cut), filet......

Was in NY last week and had one of the best Portohouses I have had in my life.

I really didn't want to bring in an ice chest into LOS as the greedy bastards at curtome may grab it and keep it...... Maybe dedicate an entire suitcase to meats andfix it up to handle the load.

China Sailor:

I think Lowake is farther than 90 miles from Austin. It is about 25 miles north of San Angelo, which probably puts it in the 200 mile range from Austin. Just a short hop in Texas.

If you go, give us a report. I'm curious to know if it is still good. I'd bet it is.

I never tried the Red Barn in San Antone. Lots of those good steak houses in and around that area though.

Oh, and don't worry about the trailer park semen touted by RodneyAnsell. I doubt anybody knows what it tastes like except Rodney.

Will, Yes I have had Aberdeen Angus and it is good as well. I don't really like the taste of aged beef that is used in Scotland but many people do. It just isn't for me.

CS:

If you want to go the other direction for a golf outing, try going to San Augustine, TX, and play a course called Fairway Farms, if it is still open.

It is a monster at 7,600 yards but lots of fun to play. They have a couple of 600 yard par fives, 500 yard par fours and a 270 yard par three. Bring lots of balls.

But now back on topic, eat at the clubhouse after the round. They used to make a great chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. Home made pies for desert and sweet iced tea. Meals like Momma used to make.

Edit in: This got me excited about Fairway Farms so I looked up a little on Google. It seems in 1967, Golf Digest voted it one of the five toughest courses in the US. I talked to a guy that was club champion and he said he never broke par on it. I believe it.

Obviously you don't like seafood, but your taste in steaks and your post make sense. You can get good beef from anywhere, even including the US.

I have eaten at Lowake many times and the food is outstanding. When I was last there, you picked your own beef from the display cooler and they cooked it to your specs. Really cold beer and good beef.

FYI, badfishlbc is just a handle, but it's true, I'm not big on fish. The reason why I said that Lowake's didn't look like a fine steakhouse is that I saw catfish and country fried steak on the menu. Usually the fine steakhouses have great sides as well. But being in Texas, a good strategy for a restaurant menu is to have country fried steak so you can bring a lot of customers in. I don't doubt a good steak can be had there.

The rule on good steaks is no A1. But gourmet sauces are OK now.

I am more concerned with the JW martini situation than with the taste of semen. And it would seem the Polish storm trooper needed help from JW to get his new steakhouse right!

OK JA on yours, mine and all other fellow Big Olive Martini lovers behalf, I have taken this matter up with the proper personnel and was assured that this will not happen again.

WS,

Scottish Aberdeen Angus eh...

Last time I went to the Angus Steakhouse in London (Queensway) I ordered the special tenderloin. As I was eating it I noticed a unique, almost gamy taste. I asked the waiter the tenderloin was typical of Scottish beef and he replied "Oh no sir, that is horse."

Riiiiight....
