I concur, when I lived in Phuket Kata Noi was easily my favorite beach 
I always suggest to my friends that are headed to Phuket to spend at least one afternoon on that beach, great for picture taking and, as posted on pg 1, the surf is much better than other beaches!
Enjoy 
As for tours, when my parents came to visit my dad insisted on the "James Bond Island" tour (he is a major fan) and IMO, it was laaaaaaame!
