Obviously everybody judges every situation on personal experience, but I know more than a handful of happily married people without any form of financial support for familys, dowrys any of that stuff......so my initial reaction to the above is...what a load of shit......but then again it is a fair comment to a point, the clue is hunt out a better class of lady. problem is most guys never leave the comfort of guaranteed sex that the BG/FL situation gives them...and that is where the problem lies.
Right...people with large sticks to beat me with to the right, large guns to the left.

I'd agree with you and that's why I said "some" and not all. I know there are exceptions to the rule. But as for a "better class of lady", I'm not sure. I think it'll really depend on the kind of person, regardless what she does or who she is and usually it's not something you can just see or identify.
As I hinted earlier, I've know BG's that initially seemed all business like that turned out to have a heart of gold and I've know ladies (I use the term loosely) from good families that turned out to be perfect bitches - they were really good at hiding that too.

Yes...Class and money are not related...I didn't mean find a richer lady....I meant a classier human being....
There's another thread going on about dowry earlier...I typed my response and decided not to post...there are things I'd rather not discuss....but again....I do not know any guy who has paid a dowry in the many years I have been associated. I also do not know of any...take that back...only 1...divorce.....and that was because he was a pig to her......
I still believe that dowry is one big con...and my Thai friends laugh if it is discussed.....having said that...and this really will get me into trouble....NOT ONE of the cases I think of involves an Isaan girl.......figure that one out

yo bro, while I don't claim to have all the experience that some bros have, I do have enough experience that I feel I could make a post here. I had a sweet thai lady that I was with for 7 yrs, it just did not work out. had another relationship with a thai lady that lasted 4 yrs, again did not work out. but then again bro maybe it is just me, like I said before there is always exceptions to the rule, I just have not found mine yet, so still looking.
just to add a note, saw the info about dowry. had to mention the lady I was with 4 yrs brought up the fact about dowry being paid to her mom, don't remember exact amount but I know it was rather large that was the reason we went our seperate ways.

the one that I was with for 4 yrs was because of the dowry. the one that was 7 yrs was because I found out she still had a husband, but he was working overseas.
we always met in bkk, however as time went on I started to go to her home which was in Buriram. one time she did not show up for our meeting in bkk, so I went to her home and guess who was there? she came out to the car as I pulled up and said why you come, why you make problem. that was when the split happened. see she told me when we met she had been divorced for 11 yrs. she kept it hidden pretty good. go figure. that is why I say I think I can post here with experience.

sorry for being ignorant in this, but what is an "Isaan girl"? Anyways, I somewhat agree with Yurune, some of the "Dowry" cultures are really just that, a culture. As time passes, we need to remember our culture, so we perform such customs, to remember our roots? So tho the "Dowry" thing did take place, no money change hands, you know what I mean? Anyway, I am babbling already.... later.
