Agree completely with your last comment. I admitted to myself a long time ago that I will always butterfly, no matter what I'm up to. Just being honest with myself. So I won't be the pot callin' the kettle "black."
Have been sponsoring my TGF for the last 4 years, we've known each other almost 5 years now. Beginning of this year, after completing various schooling (about 3.5 years worth), she got a job and pulls in reasonable money. We've shared on apartment for the last 4 years, where she stays when I'm away (which can be for months at a time).
Here's the part that most won't believe: she's very frugal with money, and suggested we reduce the sponsorship amount, now that she has a salary to take up the slack. Also means she has her own spending money.
My take on all this: sponsorship is supposed to lead somewhere, otherwise, why bother? Whether it be a relationship, helping a TGF get a business going (as some have done in the past on this forum), or just for the heck of it, it's important to think about why you're doing it. ST's are a lot cheaper way to go in the long run.

Totally believe BB because most of these girls have no experience in handling more money than they need to survive.
Giving a girl 50,000 baht a month is not 10 times better than giving her 5,000 a month. It's 10 times worse. The girl becomes a target for a dozen blood suckering relatives and friends and ends up with nothing left for herself and so keeps needing to ask for more. If she has just enough for herself she gets left alone.

This girl I took to Vietnam a few months ago, Snow, she told me that nowadays that she really doesn’t care how much money she gets because no matter what she makes during the month, she has nothing extra at the end of the month because she has to give the money to her sisters for gambling and drinking. One time a guy gave her 40,000 baht for 10 days. A month later, all gone.
Dew had probably made 300,000-400,000 baht over a year or so. I believe she has almost nothing to show for it, other than improved English skills and PADI open water scuba certification. 
But back to sponsorship, deep down we probably all know that paying of sponsorship money is not for the girl, it is really for the benefit of the sponsor.

I think the one thing any sponsor needs to realize, is that whatever money they send benefits the girl very little, but will go mostly to her relatives.
I think the only way to really have a chance at making the money go far, or do the job it's intended to do, is to either pay her apt and utilities, and schools direct, or use some kind of escrow service that handles the payments in agreed upon amounts - is there such a thing, even?
Yes, while these girls often make multiple times the monthly amount of average Thais, they invariably have little to nothing to show for it.

Met an ex-sponsored girl, I didn't ask how much she was getting in a month, but she said that she used to spend 20,000 a night on her house parties, buying drugs, booze and all.
At times when she went out to the regular pick up joints to look for sex, not money, just sex, she always gets her guys. The problem she says with the guys, is that they want to be her boyfriend. She says, all she wanted was sex! Why did she do this? Well, her sponsor didn't have time for her, he was too busy with business, making too much money, but couldn't give her the attention she needed from a regular boyfriend.
After a couple of years she got tired of this and broke up with the sponsor. Here is something interesting, she said that she'd rather be with someone she loved rather than be with him for money. Her only regret was that she didn't get to start a business, with all the money her sponsor was pouring on her. Guess, they all need a guide to help them with business and money management. hmm.... that's a business opportunity there!

This isn't really news, but most guys just blind themselves to this reality - on the other hand, you did not tell us if this girl had any framily obligations, children, and so forth... It's far easier for a girl to take this approach, if she is single, and doesn't have a family to support. Of course, the girls that blow 20,000 on drug parties don't really take those obligations seriously, either.
Known a girl that had a sponsor who sent her 50,000 Baht each month, or thereabouts - yet she never had anything to show for it. While she was fun to hangout with, young, well-built, and a pretty high-end dancer at Soi Cowboy, I ended up having to dump her unceremoniously, since she had too many problems - namely what I suspected to be drug-related issues. Pity, really, as I've known her from back when she was cute and far more innocent, and the life has really taken a toll on her. But, as tragic as that sounds, there's always more waiting in the wings...

Oh yeah, she does have a kid who the mum looks after, so yes, she send some money to her mom, but up where she comes from it doesn't really cost much. I think basically, the problem is that she was given far too much money than required, and since she was alone most of the time, guess what, she needs friends. And with all the money, all those "friends" appear out of no where.
