56% of students open to sex before marriage

An opinion survey of vocational and university students has found that more than half of the respondents (56%) are open to premarital sex. Conducted by the Child Watch Project of the Ramjitti Institute, the survey has blamed the attitude for the soaring rate of unwanted pregnancies among Thai teenage girls during the past year.
Amornvich Nakornthap, director of the institute, said 36% of vocational and university female students said they have had sex at least once.
A total of 68,385 girls under the age of 19 became pregnant last year - an average of around 180 pregnancies a day.
Besides, the survey also found that 45% of respondents suspected their classmates had homosexual tendencies.
The survey, which was supported by the Thailand Research Fund and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, also included a study on the behaviour, mental health, education, social environment, and lifestyles of Thai children and teenagers of differing ages.
The nationwide survey included a sample of 140,000 children from elementary school, secondary school, high school, and vocational and university students from 2006-2007.
''A total of 6,255 child sexual abuse cases, or 17 cases per day, were reported on average. More and more children under the age of 18 are becoming victims of sexual abuse,'' Mr Amornvich said.
He said youth crime and school violence were also on the rise, with 43,000 children below 18 convicted and sent to detention centres in the past year.
Mr Amornvich said only 10% of children performed regular religious activities such as giving alms to monks, visiting temples or practising meditation.
He said it was encouraging to learn that up to 90% of children believed in karma - good actions will bring good results and bad actions bad results.
''However, the good news is that on the education front, Thai children, including the disabled, have better access to education these days.
''About 73% of the Mathayom 6 students are being provided with the opportunity to continue their studies up to the university level,'' he said.

One fifths of teenagers will have sex on Saint Valentine's day

One in every five teenagers will likely end up having sex on the upcoming Saint Valentine's Day, according to a survey by the Assumption University.
Conducted between February 1 and February 9, the survey covered 2,384 teenagers in Bangkok and its adjacent provinces. The respondents were between 12 and 19 years old.
"It's worrying because 48.9 per cent of respondents also see sexual relationships as normal and about personal rights," Noppadon Kannika of the Assumption University said Sunday.
He also pointed out to the dangerous side of teenagers engaging in sex. Of those questioned, about 15.4 per cent had sexual experiences.
According to the survey, only 21.1 per cent of those who had been sexually active have always used condoms. Some 58.8 per cent others said they practised safe sex sometimes while up to 21.1 per cent never used condoms before.

a sure place to bump into uni gals is in shopping centres, like all girls of that age worldwide they love window shopping (can't really buy much as they're skint) and people watching. Recently I spent a couple of days in Bangsaen Beach, Chonburi and went to Laemthong Shopping Centre, located in front of the huge Burapha University compound. The place was brimming with sexy young things, still wearing their (tight) uniforms. Hardly a farang on sight (despite being so close to Pattaya), exchanged a few furtive looks (as I was with family on tow) and been given the eye by some. On a moment I was on my own, perusing a IT shop, I was accosted by a couple of them with the excuse they wanted to practice their English. The wifey wasn't impressed by these antics.

Even closer to BKK, try Carrefor shopping center at Thailand Cultural Center subway stop, or go to Pinklao shopping center or Seacon Square. You will see hundreds and hundreds of young Thais and maybe one farang.
At night, go to Ratchada Soi 4 pubs. Again hundreds of Thais in their early 20s.
Finding students is easy, they are everywhere. Finding ones who want to associate with a farang is a completely different story, as these are a minority.

So true. Finding one that will do the average bkktonite forum member is like finding a needle in a haystack. But I think good looking farangs or good looking guys in general stand a decent chance.
Ratchada Soi 4... if you are farang and want to stick out like a sore thumb, this is the place for you. :D
