Some of you might say what the f*** has this got to do with Thailand, well possibly quite a bit. The baht traded up over 1 baht today to about 41.20 aginst the USD on this news, and could well have long term baht implications.
BL, don't you mean it traded down as it now takes one more THB to buy a US$?

At the beginning today it was 42.2 baht to a dollar so I mean the baht traded up bacause it is stronger against the dollar - less baht to buy 1 dollar, I am suggesting this could have implications for the thai baht in that the baht will gain and become stronger from the revauation.

With the cost of energy going thru the roof, Thai economy doesn't have strength and depth to weather the coming storm. Thai Baht goes to 45+ to the USD.

Got to agree with Big D there. In addition to the fuel cost problem (what were they thinking!), there is the water shortage (certain industries in the Eastern Seaboard are having to reduce operations to 60% of capacity), Thaksin's profligate spending program and a massive Current Account Deficit. IMHO a 2% RMB revaluation is going to be only a temporary respite for the Baht. It will continue its recent plunge and could well hit 45 by the end of the year.
I hope so anyway. Everything 10% cheaper. Lovely jubblies.

baht isn't going anywhere, its a bozo currency and the thai economy is a house of cards.
the chinese threw the us a bone is all.
nobody bullies china into anything they don't want to do unless its in their own interest.
they are holding upwards of US$230 billion of US Treasury paper, financing us consumers debt.
