I think the reason people are seeing humour in this is that anyone who has lived in Thailand a while meets, over and over again, men who fall for thai women who it is clear to everyone else are intending to do just this.
(Well, not so much kill them as get them to buy property in the Thai wife's name then drive them out).
We hear these stories over and over again, and some of us spend time trying to convince people to not take this route, hitting our heads against brick walls.
I guess it is just an extension of the old adage that love is blind: in the west, we see friends falling for bad'uns, and those friends are just as impervious to reason. And just maybe, some of us have been burned ourselves.
So it is not mocking laughter, or joyous laughter, but knowing laughter, despairing laughter, the rueful grimace of someone who has seen this coming a fair few times before. "What exactly did he expect?" exasperated laughter. Gallows humour. There but for the grace of God go I humour.
(I could go on, hahahah. But you get the picture).

Ha, what I meant was that people in love are blind to the faults of the objects of their affections, whether the girl in question is, say, sleeping around or, er, intending to murder them. Just occurred to me as I was writing the post that, in a sense, the reactions of the person in love are not so different, though in another sense (ie, what they are risking), they are.

Did anyone hear about the dude who was shot while driving his car in don meaung by 2 guys on a motorbike. was abt 4-5 months ago. same wife and thai bf story although this guy was young and got away with a bullet in the shoulder.
