Continuing the Po-Boy tantalization: best in NOLA by far was Mother's Restaurant at Poydras corner Tchopitoulas Sts. Unforgettable breaded veal cutlet po-boys, although anything on their menu was exceptionally good. Too bad the Landy family sold out, I gather the place hasn't been the same.
The Bright Star, Burdette and Panola Sts, also used to be great, especially for classic roast beef po-boys and also, fried shrimp po-boys. I was esp fond of it since my grandmother lived half a block away...she died, Bright Star changed hands, nothing is permanent, dust in the wind.

Italian sausage po-boys made with the wonderful Fontana's Grocery sausage...a Whole Food Co. is there now, Adams and Pine Sts...
And the Muffalatta sandwiches at the Central Grocery, Decatur Street in the Vieux Carre, opp. the French Market. Ummm.
Ham & cheese on buns at the Lafitte's Tavern, Chartres St just down from Paul Prudhomme's place, or up from Brennan's.
I'd better have some Thai food before I get too homesick.

Bro. stop please you're killing me. I did'nt get down that way to much, only a couple of times a year but, there were a couple in between I could get to easier so it was'nt all bad for me. When I was building power lines for BECI, and CLECO, my crew was always put in the worst places imagineable coz they knew we was crazy enough to go through those places and, get the job done. We had a long contract that kept us in one area and, we come across this old man that drug around a BBQ trailor. He also made PO-BOYS. Bro. they was um um ummm GOOOOOOOODDDD!!! Just outside of Oppalusas(spl?) La. They had a smoked me fest every year and, They had a awesome PO-BOY booth set in there too, man O' man good stuff!!!

But maybe because I thought it was a poor aproach to what in the USA is sold as mexican food which in turn itself is not so mexican Ŭ(just add lots of shredded lettuce, onions, tomatoes, guacamole, black olives, cheddar cheese, salsa, sour cream, and voila! no f*****way! -that is not what people in Mexico eat)

Exactly why I seldom eat Mexican food anywhere but So. Cal. ŬThere are only a FEW, but there are SOME real Mexican restaurants here. ŬAnd the border isn't too far, although, Mexican border food isn't all that Mexican, either.
As for Po'Boys, last time I was in NOLA, I had an oyster po'boy that I'll remember forever...interestingly, the only oysters I've found since that were as good, were in LOS, although they have a different taste.
"I met a girl in the Vieux-Carre..." I don't EVEN want to talk about it...
