IMHO if the NCAA sticks with the BCS system they will only encounter more years like the past two.

Sounds good to me. Florida best team in 2006/2007 and LSU best team in 2007/2008.

And don't forget Texas, the best team in 2005/2006 after beating USC in one of the greatest games in football history. Without the BCS, USC would have played the Big 10 champ in the Rose Bowl, and Texas would have played someone else (not USC or not Auburn) in the Orange Bowl.

God Bless the BCS.

What most of you are missing (even though I explained it mutilple times) is that the polls and the BCS are not the same. The polls existed before the BCS. The BCS uses the polls to make sure that numbers 1 and 2 play each other in the BCS title game...

....These same polls (people) will decide who is ranked 1-8 in a playoff (if one is adopted). They will also determine (obviously) the seedings, which determines who plays whom in rounds 1 and 2.

So anyone who has a problem with the way the polls have made decisions, are likely to be equally disappointed in the future even if a playoff system is implemented.

If the pollsters could be trusted to nail down the true 1 and 2 teams then no problem. But they cannot, and due to the limiting nature of the BCS championship game (one game, two teams) I feel the system is flawed. The BCS does not make sure the true 1 and 2 teams play, it make sure based upon it’s own limitations that the teams that end up ranked 1 and 2 (by the polls) play in the championship game.

I do have a problem with the pollsters, but it is because the field of top teams in the NCAA is getting more and more crowded each year. And therefore it is more and more difficult to make sure the true 1 and 2 teams are singled out by the pollsters to play in the limiting BCS system. However, I feel confident that the polls can continuously get at least the top 6 teams into the top 8 in the polls. This should guarantee the fans and the schools a legitimate number 1 at the end of the playoffs - and more great football.

I don’t see how the seedings/ rankings really matter all that much. If one is truly the number 1 team in the nation it should not matter all that much when over the 3 weeks they play any of the other teams. And since the teams play on neutral fields the seeding matters not. If I am the number 1 team who cares if I play the actual number 2 team in week one or week three – I should still beat them. The seeding matters so much in the NFL largely because of the home-field advantage - which is not a factor in this case.

All I care about is getting a legitimate number 1 at the end of the playoff. I could care less if what turns out to have been the number 2 team in the nation gets kicked to the curb in week 1 because of the seeding - at least they will be given a shot. For all I care they could take the top eight put their names in a hat and draw names to see who plays who in week 1. Then have the winner of the Rose bowl play the winner of the Fiesta bowl (rotating each year between the two who gets to host round 2 – Rose or Fiesta), and have the Sugar bowl winner play the Orange bowl winner (rotating each year between the two who gets to host round 2 – Orange or Sugar). And then rotate between the four bowls who gets to host the championship game.

For that matter they could let the Rose keep the BigTen/Pac-10 match-up for round 1, let the other bowls keep their historic tie-ins for round 1 as well Sugar (SEC/At large bid), Orange (ACC/Big East), Fiesta (well they don’t have that long of a history but we’ll give them the Big-12 and the other at large). Actually if I had my choice I would eliminate conference/bowl ties all together and simply let the top 8 ranked team plays – but that would be a hard sell to the schools (they want a guarantee of a share of the pie each year and therefore will want a guarantee that their conference champ gets into the playoffs).

Besides who could pass up a chance to get to see three weeks of top NCAA teams playing one another? I doubt I would be disappointed.

"Tom Brady is special"

she has been a Peyton fan since she got here but watched Tom last night beat up on the Jaguars and when she said that... it brought me back to 2002 when we watched England play and she said "Beckham is Special"

I dont know if its looks or ability...probably both...but she has become a major american football fan...

I actually bet against the cowboys-legally, I watched the game in a Las Vegas gameroom. I'm a lifelong Giants fan (born in Jersey).

I had a great time cheering my team and loved the game-especially the final interception when I could finally exhale.

When I went to cash in my ticket, the guy says "you bet on the cowboys"

Turns out that the guy I bought the ticket from gave me a ticket for the cowboys-even though I appeared in full Giants regalia and specifically asked to put the cash on the Giants.

I went back to the guy who sold me the ticket and explained how he had f***ed up but he maintained that I must have bet on the cowboys.

Oh, well.

J,

that frekin sucks..and I love the sports books in vegas a great place to make $100 bet and drink for free for a 3 hour game...I get you "holding the breath at the end"

could it be that you maybe tossed back a few (in vegas its understandable) and accidently put money on the cowboys?

Just trowing that out because they usually run a tight ship in Vegas..

sorry man but Eli is gonna have his work cut out for him in Lambo on Sunday...good luck..

About 5 years ago, I put a C-note on Univ of Wisconsin over UNLV + 7 points in Vegas. Seemed like a good bet, it was the first time they were taking money on the local Las Vegas teams and the bookies really screwed up on the spread. There were thousands of Wisconsin fans that made the trip and bet on the Badgers. It was the only sellout for UNLV all year, and most attending were rooting for Wisconsin.

With 7 minutes left, Wisconsin led 27-7 and then there was a power failure. Lights came back on 40 minutes later, but coaches decided to call the game rather then risk injury from the players sitting around so long.

When I went to cash my ticket, I only got face value because of a strange gaming rule that said the game had to go 55 minutes or the sports book considered it a draw, eventhough Wisconsin won.

Lots of irate fans believe the bookies pulled some strings (and the plug) to save themselves many thousands of dollars.
