PS: I bet you thought it was a Hurricane that destroyed New Orleans but it was really the current Republican administration that did it. They wouldn't allow all those folks to use the school buses to evacuate.
The school buses were controlled by the NO City School system, which was controlled by Democrats (and still is). The Feds urged an evacuation of NO, and many ignored them (as is typical among those who have lived through hurricanes previously).

I don't know where you got the idea that the Feds would not allow them to use school buses to evacuate, especially since the Feds had no legal jurisdiction in such a matter.

Actually, I think they took what was left of NO after GWB destroyed it, planted some palm trees in the dome, threw some sand around and got some Ho's off of Bourbon Street and put grass skirts on them.
Actaully they made $185 million worth of repairs, but who is counting?

No the best OSU bowl game was when they were down and the receiver from the opposing team was running down the sidelines on his way to a TD and Woody Hayes (the coach) punches the gut in the side of the face. Hey football a contact sport right? Poor Woody lost the plot!

Hey Mr. Alan,

Do you go by the name Captain America too?

Actually there is enough blame to spread around. FEMA, Homeland Security, and the governments of Louisiana/New Orleans all 'screwed the pooch' on this one.

It is funny though that (by government admission) the only helicopters flying SAR immediately after the storm was the Coast Guard and the training unit of the Singapore Defense Force (based at Grand Prairie, TX). The rest of the military had their hands tied by the Posse Comitatus Act.

My favorite scene from the Kartina Recovery:

Air China 747 (Cargo) aircraft being loaded with rice for shipment to New Orleans as relief supplies. There is a good chance that some of the rice was grown in Louisiana ...

Since there are only 2 teams in the BCS title game, it is only mathematically possible to screw 2 teams.

Which two teams (only two please) do you think should have played in the title game? Of course, seeing OSU get their butt kicked makes it easier to pick someone else, but I think the BCS system did the job it was designed to do.

The BCS does not consist of just the BCS championship game. The BCS consists of five bowls; Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, Orange, and the championship game - all are BCS bowls. So technically the BCS have the ability to screw at least ten teams each year. And just because a team gets into a BCS bowl does not mean they did not get screwed by the BCS – example Georgia, they got into a BCS bowl but were stuck playing Hawaii (screwed).

But I think USC, Georgia, and Oklahoma all had as much right to play in the title game as LSU or Ohio State.

So who got screwed by the BCS this year: Fans (because the BCS failed to produce the best match-ups), Rose Bowl (because they got stuck with Illinois because Ohio State was tied into the title game), Georgia (because they got leap-frogged even without losing in the final weeks – and then they got stuck playing Hawaii), USC (because they got stuck playing Illinois), Missouri (because they got left out of the BCS all together, even being ranked higher than several BSC bowl teams), USC, Georgia, and Oklahoma (because all were good candidates for the title game that were denied a shot).

Who benefited: Ohio State, Illinois, and Hawaii (all of which got into better bowls than they should have).

Top eight into a playoff and none of the above teams get screwed – WV and Hawaii maybe. But the teams that get screwed in a playoff system are far fewer than can get screwed by the existing BCS system.

IB,

I know you didnt mean it but cheers for the props toward my Dawgs

obviously the BCS is all about TV ratings and money generated and not for finding the true champion..

unless there is a clear cut dominant team there will always be debate..but what are you gonna do?

I dont think they will change the format..

IB..as for your bucks..they are clearly dominant in the big 10... year in and year out and will probably be again next year...but no division has recruiting or a schedule like the SEC overall...

If you can muster a 1 loss season as an SEC team you are doing pretty good...

I am going to have to disagree about that.

The only reason the other bowl games are involved in the BCS system is that the BCS championship game takes 2 teams out of the other bowls (sometimes where a contract with a conference existed), and they needed some way to ensure equity about which bowls get the remaining teams. Any "screwing" of teams is not done by the BCS, it is done by the bowls when the make their selection of the remaining teams, and there was just as much (probably more so) "screwing" before the BCS as to the bowl selections. Don't blame the BCS.

...USC (because they got stuck playing Illinois), Missouri (because they got left out of the BCS all together, even being ranked higher than several BSC bowl teams), USC, Georgia, and Oklahoma (because all were good candidates for the title game that were denied a shot).
USC got screwed (at least according to you) by the Rose Bowl and the PAC 10, who have a contract to where the PAC 10 champ every year goes to the Rose Bowl, unless they are the 1 or 2 ranked team playing in the BCS title game. That is the way it worked before the BCS, and that is the way the PAC 10 and Rose Bowl want it to work, so don't blame the BCS.

There can only be 2 teams in the title game, so some teams (who may be good candidates) are always going to get screwed. Don't blame the BCS. It was much worse before the BCS system.

Given the bizarre events of the year, the correct 2 teams were chosen to play in the BCS title game. If you don't like who was chosen, blame the pollsters who selected them 1 and 2, not the BCS. These same polls existed before the BCS to pick the national champs after the bowl games.

If we go to a 8 team playoff, there will be endless discussion of how the number 9 and 10 teams got screwed by the pollsters and missed the playoffs. Then, everone else (except number 1) will complain they got screwed in the seedings (which means they play a tougher team in the first and second rounds).

No matter what system you choose, there will be a lot of screwing going on, so I guess this is why this thread is on topic for the forum.
