I should just add that I got a lot out of Bob's posts and while not frequent they were informative to me as he spent time in parts of Thailand that I did not. I think it is unfortunate for all of us that another has thrown in the towel.

The reason that traffic to BTF has slow down is not because of Daffy or any other members. It's simply because of disinterest and the departure of active members.
A forum is a way of communication where people express their opinions. That some of the members can't live with them is solely a problem of those people.
As a super moderator of one of the largest webmaster forums (Most users ever online was 10,816, 19th Jun 2011 at 06:54 PM) don't teach me the working of a forum.

The board is a reflection of life in general where you get all sorts of people and there are always some idiots present.

There was a breaking point back in 2006 (I think) when a lot of people left for reasons I do not anylonger remember, Thin White Duke, Hermanolobo, etc, etc. I think the fall out was connected with TWD revealing someone's real life identity. It was the time when Pattaya Addicts was established - this in my mind was an unrelated event.
The creativity and cameraderie just disapeared and I myself faded.
I frequent other forums now, Thai Visa, Pattaya addicts, HHAD and it goes in periods of active participation and periods of abstinence.
At the very height we had the Yeti games which has absolutely nothing to do with Bangkok or Thailand.
I eeked out a presence on the Z forum by running a thread on Emerson Lake and Palmer, in the end way beyond anyone's interest but for a bit of fun to see how long I could keep it going.
And then - nothing.
I check in maybe every 3 months but hardly post. As for Daffy and Dirty Guru I just ignore their posts and do not try to understand what the overall issue is, i.e. pro or against.
But the nerve is lost in this forum and the creativity and cameraderie is gone.
For me, as said it goes back to The Great Fallout.
It did not have to be this way, although I can imagine forums go through a life cycle.
A memorable event was when I changed board name from "liftoff" to "Frank La Rue" on the spur of a moment in posting exchange between the Thin White Duke and ExpatChuck where there was a refence to these names, i.e Frank and La Rue. Chuckie always suspected it was me as Frank but Hermanolobo and I set him up with a posting about aliens in Thailand, where I figured as the internet persona "HAL 2000". EPC fell for it - I think he is still out there in Udon looking for the latest sighting
......and then there was B1 LOL

This is a very interesting post, and one that I can relate to. Although I like to consider myself qualified, having been visiting for the best part of 20 years, and being married to TG for over 10 (now divorced - best left for another day), I still don't always feel I belong here. I feel that some members just get off on putting down some people and ridiculing them just for the hell of it. It's almost like a members club, where some people talk in their own language and often go off topic for the want of correcting people, than actually discuss the topic in hand. At present, I don't post hardly at all, for these very reasons.
When I first joined I got so much information out of this forum, first trip to Barons, best time to go to Eden, how to get to CP2, recom for a dentist, views on who the best tailor is etc etc. This is really helpful stuff and invaluable to newbies. I remember when asking about SOL, one member who always posted about the place (forgot his name, sorry), emailed me maps and even pm'd me his mobile in case I had any problems. This is what the forum should be about.
I used to check several times a day. Now it's once a week, if that. This is not a conscious decision, it's just like that... there must be a reason for this ?
I recently joined Pattaya addicts, which is so active, that even when you are replying to a thread, other replies will pop up before you even press send. However the problem with addicts is that there really are a lot of crude, low life morons on there and some of the topics are just inane... coupled with the fact, that I am someone who prefers BK to Pttya.... on addicts most don't even spend an hour in BK, preferring to jump in a cap, put on their vests, flex their tattooed covered flesh and have sex for 2 weeks in Soi 6.
It's not for me to suggest how to improve this site, as I said I still feel like an outsider, but I will always visit as long as it's here, and hopefully I can still benefit from other members advice.

Well, I m not surprised, many good forum members left the place because of two people, namely Daffy Duck and Dr Love.
I was treated like shit and insulted by both for a long time, each time I posted something I had one or both of those idiots answering with some of their usual shit comments,
and now got both on ignore, problem solved...
Sad to see this forum dying a slow and painfull death just because of those two....PLEASE dont take it badly BK,
i think you are a really nice guy, but I fail to understand why Dr Love and Daffy are still here....

as you have said, the ignore function works quite well on here.
so it is the personal decision of every member whether to see the posts of any specific member or not.
repeated boorish, insipid, or insulting posts arent cause for banning, but rather for ignoring.

B5H, its hard to see a good man leaving while *certain others* never cease to amaze with their continuity in b/s posting... I just ignore them... and this so much that I don't even use the ignore function on them... haha... A shrug is all I have for such posts...
I still enjoy the forum although it surely has lost a great number of excellent posters... Only a few new ones like Quim etc. have the potential to fill the gaps...
Everything must change.. An excellent forum will never be an excellent forum for a decade or more... Heydays come and go... Always excpect the unexpected.. TiT...!!!

Like any community that dies, BTF has been in a long slow spiral down because there is no new blood coming in on a regular basis.
People leave LOS eventually as they move on in life and without new blood, the fate is inevitable.
Sad for me to see and watch it happen.
I have enjoyed this hangout for many years.

will it come to life again ?
