Jee... I tried to delay my return flight by 1 day and they are asking for 1k fare difference+change fee.. lol
Is it too high because I'm trying to change the ticket before I go to BKK? Would it be cheaper if I tried to change the return flight once I arrive in BKK?

Read the ticket rules and see if they have a section on medical emergency when you are on your trip. If you have one go to a Thai Doc and get a note that you can't travel for a few days.
Call the reservations office and cancel your reservation and rebook for the date you want to travel. Tell them about your medical problem and have them enter this on your record. No charge for the change.

No. There are probably not any more of the same fare that you have which are available on the next day. There are only a limited number of discount fares available on each flight.
Airline ticket pricing is a very complicated subject and there is usually a vast difference between the fares that different passengers pay on the same flight. These pricing schemes are basically designed to give tourists a discount if they can plan ahead, and penalizes business travelers who often have to make last minute changes to their travel.

If it is not covered by the airline your travel insurance may cover you for the extra costs.
But is that not fraud, but there again the doctor writing you a note knowing there is nothing preventing you from is fraud.

If you tell us what airline ur traveling on and the fare basis or class then we could help yuou a little better.
Usually if your fare basis is not available then u have to buy up to another available, if u do that then there should not be a ticket change charge, as long as u do it before u use the first portion of the outbound.

I would also look into having the airline check an alternative routing and if the cost is really prohibitive then I would look to see what the cost of a round trip is on another carrier, whicj leaves u with 2 open tickets that u can use later plus the change fees.

Yes, I think you could probably get a ticket out of BKK for less than $1,000. However, no promises. In addition to a possible medical emergency, you can sometimes just show up late and get the next flight on standby. If all you want is one more day then you might be able to wing it that way. In any case, good luck because I think you're going to need it.

I had to change my flight when I missed going back by a day.....555. It cost me $150 to change, for standby the next day. I got there real early, was second in the standby line, and they took 7. It seems a few ppl miss their flight each day.
To have a comfirmed booking it would have cost me over $1k to change my ticket.

I'm using Northwest airline and it's discount economic fare with no refund ticket.
Normal change fee is $150.
