I live in Vancouver, Canada and travel to Bangkok at least 5 times a year. I find that the ticket prices are steady year round for Bangkok.
The best rates I find is with Korean Air and Eva Air. If you want service then it would be Cathay or Singapore Air. Cathay Pacific has by far the best connection service to Bangkok. Singapore Air has great service, but bad connection. DO NOT BUY from Air Canada. They are the most expensive, bad service and bad connection.
The airline I recommend for flying service wise is Sinapore Air (if you don't mind 8 hour lay over in Seoul or Singapore), Cathay Pacific, and Eva Air.
If you want cheapest ticket then try Korean Air, or Air China.
Don't bother with Hotel. Book on-line at Thailand-rooms.com. Great sellection and prices.
For the best travel agent for these areas use Silk travel or Jade tours. They specialize in asian flights.

I have to disagree with you, YVR-HKG, wait 2 hours and then on to BKK, arrival time in Bangkok about 10:00 How much more efficient can you get?
Price on Air Canada is quite often 1000 CAD, very competitive.
Air Canada service is about the worst I have ever seen, the flight attendants are all fat and ugly (just like me) and the company is on VERY shaky ground.
Cathay has a ton of seat sales, good service and nice flight attendants, my reccomendation.

I kinda prefer an airline that gets it's
crashes out of the way all at once.
I really don't like airlines that wait
and wait and wait till they crash,
since the much delayed crash might
occur on the flight I happen to be on.
