Songkran (April time ) has always been a bad time to visit for me. Two weeks either side of it and its as mad as hell. Besides April and May are just ridiculously hot. I can stand extreme heat but when you find that a two minute walk turns even the fittest people into a bucket of sweat you need to rethink things a little. Hopping from one air-conned shop to another just to get somewhere aint fun. Some girls I have known also go abck to meet their families in the country etc around songkran and just after. Ive been around when the cobra gold thing has been going off (usually around May??) and there certainly is an increase in males around pattaya etc. I have also noticed that everytime Ive visited Samui the Thai miltary (i think) also sometimes stop off the east coast but dont know what effect this has on things in Chaweng etc...maybe this is just coincidence rather than a training exercise??

Cobra Gold normally takes place April/May time, I did hear last year after Bali that Pattaya was "off limits" to the US military guys, if it was, still is, or they obey orders I do not know.
Prices do skyrocket, I heard it said that one GoGo bar upped it’s bar fines and band it girls leaving before midnight because the previous occasion of the U.S. fleet being at anchor in Pattaya Bay all the girls, (dancers, serving wenches and even the casher) had all been bar-find by 8pm.
