rather than start a new thread, i'll piggy-back on this one: INFO: thai international will cancel its non-stop flight LAX - BKK - LAX this month - 10/08. it will be replaced by a flight that makes a fuel stop at narita, japan. it is cheaper than leaving LAX fully fueled. the flight gets into Suvarnabhumi at 23:59, which has to be the worst arrival time - IMHO! cheers.....................

23:59 is not bad at all. Traffic is light, if you're a light traveller like me, with no checked-in luggage you could get out of the airport in less than 10 minutes. You should arrive at Sukhumvit in about 20-25 minutes without needing to use the Express Way. If your check-in is quick you could find yourself hitting the bars by 1:15-1:30 am. At the of posting the late night clubs are back in action again, however it may change from time to time. And those unexpected early closing will make this time of arrival really suck.

This September had a 2345 scheduled arrival time. Parked at the gate 15 minutes early. Even with checked bags, I was able to get to the hotel, shower, and hit the streets by 1AM.

I always use Cathay. I feel that their Economy class is better then most business class airlines. I am presently a Diamond Member with this airline, so they give me the Bulk Head seat or first row. On many flights they even "block" the seat next to me. My point is: If you travel often (I travel between Thailand and the U S about a dozen times a year) ; try and use the same airline. they are looking for the Frequent or steady customer; even if you travel in economy (which I do). Also check their website they have almost every month some promotions (especially if you over 55). Also check that sometimes your city of origin will really bring down the price. iI sometimes pays to buy a one way or use mileage and start your trip from your destination city. If you need more info how to do this. Just ask...

I found a United flight out of Wash DC leaving on Nov 15 and coming back on Nov 23 for $1550. Cheapest I could find. I could have saved $230 if I would have agreed to a 7 Hour layover in QATAR!!!!!!!!!!! No thanks. Happy Hunting.

BK & Sai Tai - Good point! I usually arrive at 11:15 and have lots of time to get squared away before I hit the bars. The culture shock of hitting NanaP directly from conservative Los Angeles should be interesting. Assuming it isn't padlocked by the time I arrive, whose up for an early morning beer? 57 days and counting! Cheers......... Moke

Budget cars can be rented in the U.S. at about $31 per day for an Intermediate SUV. Keep the car for a day and return and you get a whopping 7500 skymiles. Do 8 of these over a couple of weekends and you've got a free RT ticket to Thailand for under $300 U.S.. It is worth the effort believe me. Between this promotion and an AVIS/Budget promo for 9,999 miles per one day rental I've almost got enough for 3 free RT tickets in less than a years time. I haven't paid for a ticket to BKK in 3 years. Our next trip will be free tickets number 7, 8 and 9. The above mentioned Budget promo is discussed in depth at flyertalk.com under miles/points and in the Delta thread. I should also mention that a friend of mine rented 18 cars on Friday, 15 cars on Saturday and 19 more on Sunday. He opened the contracts and took one car off the lot each time leaving the remainder. When he returned he closed all the contracts and got his next car(s). He earned 270,000 skymiles for $1800 U.S. Just DAMN. 4 trips to Thailand in coach or two Biz class tix. LS
