I plan to take the following roundtrip in jan-feb 2007 : BKK - Pattaya - Sihanookville - PP - BKK.
I plan to go overland and if there is anything of interest I will get off the bus and stay a day or so.
Any info is welcome, but my specific questions are :
A) Estimate time the bus takes to go from Pattaya to Trat. (So I get there in time before the border closes at 17.00 hours. Is that still the case?)
B) Are there any sights to see on this part of my trip that are worth getting of the bus for? I have seen the elephant show and zoo and the nearby golden budha carved from the rockface of a big hill.
C) Same as B) realy. Is there any nightlife worth making my journey longer then nessecary for, knowing I just left Pattaya? I read some FR from Lokul Yokul and Dirty Guru in Rayong, which were nice, but did not inspire me yet to leave the bus.
D) Where in Pattaya is the busstation for Trat? And does the bus go every hour like the bus to BKK (I guess not.)

Did this last year..........
Bus from Pattaya to Trat, Sukvit at 0600 in the morning. Motorbike rider will know where to drop you off to catch the bus. It was 160baht and a 5-6 hour bus ride.
Once at the bus stop in Trat, they will be a couple of vans standing by for a ride to the border for around 100baht. 1 hour van ride.
Arrived at the border around 1-2PM, 20 dollars immigration fee and 2 photos plus passport and you are in Cambodia. Now the problem starts, you will be there to late for a boat ride and taking a van with 20 other riders is a pain. Van was around 1000baht. Was traveling with a friend so we split the 100 dollars for a taxi to PP, driver was really good-speed wise and it still took us 6 hours to get there. This was over a year ago, so the roads maybe better.
Arrive in PP around 10PM and stayed at the California Hotel for around 700baht a night. Low end room, but good atmosphere and location.
Note
- Could of stayed overnite at the border and caught a boat or minivan in the morning........but there is nothing at the border. Actually could of stayed overnight at the casino hotel for around 1500 baht, too short on time and was looking forward to PP.
- 100.00 dollar taxi for 2 and they will tag on 1-2 additional riders for more income.
- 6AM bus will be crowded, but will clear about 30 minutes into the ride after the technical school and factories.
- Expect the bus fare has increased, so will estimate 300baht one way.
- Return trip pretty much the same, only bus from Trat to Pattaya took almost 7 hours. It was not an express bus.

Thanks, that is usefull information.
In broad lines I was familiar with your story. That is why I plan to cross the border and stay the night to take the morning ferry to Snookyville for some beach bumming.
So it is probably not nessecairy to take the bus from Pattaya at a ungodly hour. Crossing the border is my only goal that day.
Unless somebody posts that there is something to see or do that is worth it to invest a whole day (s) of my vacation by stopping halfway pattaya and Trat.
I'm also not planning to return the same way. I plan to take Air Asia out of PP to BKK. That way I have more freedom on spending my "extra" day somewhere along the line.

Hi BK and all,
I'm coming back to LOS in Dec. and the new wife needs to get a bus to Uttaradit from Mo Chit. The problem is, when we call Mo Chit we can't get any times. So the question is...."Does anyone know if there are buses running to Uttaradit from Mo Chit after 11:50 PM.? Like 1 or 2 AM? Or how late do they run? I did some searching on the net but all I found was generic stuff.

But it didn't work. I called and they have no buses to Uttaradit and the website doesn't even list Uttaradit as a destination (according to the wife, I don't read thai).
