I thought the "high" season begins in early to mid-November. I guess you are referring to the US season that is pre-Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday.

November may be the high season in Thailand, but it's the low season in the U.S.
I was told by a travel agent that the low season in Thailand (now) is high season in the U.S. That's why the prices are higher now.
Make perfect sense?

I'm not sure if that makes sense
Do people travel to sunny destinations overseas when the beaches and lakes in the US are available for the summer?
Ie - high season for cape cod is now certainly, but I'd speculate that the beaches in Jamaica and Cancun are empty of chubby americans right now.

A lot depends on which connecting city you use to get to BKK. Direct non-stop flights to BKK are cheap right now, but if you have to fly a domestic US leg, or a leg to Japan, etc to get to the gateway, then fares might not be so cheap.
In the BKK high season (Nov - Feb), the reverse might be true. Flights to the connecting city might be cheap, but the leg to BKK will be more expensive.
The total fare depends on how much an airline is willing to discount the total price to fill up the "off-season" leg of the trip.
Currently, there are lots of flights from LAX to BKK under $600.

mr alan, could you supply me some examples of these RT uswc - bkk flights that are cheap and under 600. i have not been able to locate cheap RT tix and had a travel agent work on it for a week who didnt no much better than i did.

Korean Airlines has fares under $600 from LAX - BKK through the month of August. The flights connect at Incheon International Airport, Seoul, Korea, which is a brand new airport built for the 2002 World Cup. I have flown Korean Air and they are at least as good as US carriers. http://www.koreanair.com/ Look for the promotions at the top of the page.
Also try http://www.travelocity.com/ Be aware that they charge a $5 service fee and $20-$25 delivery fee.

mr alan, thnx. i hadnt been on travelocity in a week and things really opened up in the last few days!!! a week ago the rates were at mostly 800+ with a couple under that and now there are many in the high 500's. have not come across the low 500 korean air yet but will look again. thnx unless i can get a 12 month validity on a ticket i will be buying a one-way. found a couple of high 400 rates and as RT have dropped so much lately maybe i will find the 350 rates of may. who knows but fun looking. thnx again.

The $529 offer dow not include about $50 in tax, so you have to tack that on. I tried for late Aug departure with early sept return...cost 634 including tax, so watch it, you may do better calling a travel agent. Remember to get your total cost, not just the quoted price. Apples to apples comparisons are necessary; watch those teaser rates, gentlemen.
