I think you can't use e-ticket only when your one way trip is booked with mulitiple airlines.

I noticed that many cheap Orbitz tickets are booked with mulitiple airlines.

I have even seen a round trip ticket using 4-5 airlines in Orbitz LOL.

Maxozzie,

It sounds like you book directly with Cathay Pacific through their website. That may be the difference. I sure like the E-ticket concept. Too bad E-tickets are not available when booking through Orbitz or Travelocity. (AFAIK, that is)

Yeah, I guess that must be it as Cathay is my favorite airline and I usually book thru their website. In addition to not having to worry about a lost ticket, E-tickets are also more convenient if you have to change your departure/return dates as they just make the change in the computer and the change fee is usually much less.

Maxozzie,

Yes, e-tickets are definitely the way to go!

I was thinking about trying a business class ticket from LAX to BKK ( a splurge for me), and the price difference between Orbitz/Travelocity and Cathay Pacific is substantial. The Cathay Pacific website is nearly double the price of Orbitz/Travelocity. So much for the e-ticket.

Regards

Sanook269,

Yes, I will give them a call to see if they will match the price. I hope so, because I like the idea of the e-ticket.

Regards

I think that's my issue then. I always have to book a connecting flight since I am flying out of New York. I usually take the Newark-Tokyo route on Continental and either take ANA or Cathay from Tokyo to BKK. The last deal I got was a bargain at $787 RT on Orbitz. The one thing that did piss me off though is that Continental stopped counting elite miles on tickets from Orbitz anymore this year. I never get e-tickets : ( But booking a similar flight through Continental is $3000, and gets me into BKK 1.5 hours later. I'll take the paper ticket and the $787 fare please.

They will match the fare IF that fare has an available seat in their reservation system. Fares, and availability of seats at a specific fare, change by the minute.

Sometimes it is harder for the airline reservation agent to find the lowest fare, so checking the other portals first and then calling the airline is often a good idea.

I also prefer e-ticket, but if a paper ticket is substantially cheaper than an e-ticket, I would buy paper ticket any time.

As I mentioned above, I guess your connecting flight must be the same airline in order to use e-ticket.

Also, with e-ticket, you can probably even check-in and print boarding pass via airline websites. This is very convinent. This way, you can just go to the airport 1 hour before departure since you don't have to checkin at the airport.

However, don't try to use a computer printer printed boarding pass in BKK. The last time I tried to use it, ignorant BKK security guys didn't let me pass the security gate and asked me to get the traditional paper boarding pass. Well, because I had the printed boarding pass, I arrived in the BKK airport 1 hour before the departure just like I did in USA and I almost missed my flight.

I need some bargain tickets for next month.

Do the links mentioned above apply to Hawaii Islands US as well or does it differ?

just purchased my tickets for this december and went directly to EVA.

EVA offers a deluxe coach fare: coach meals and business class seats - a little more than coach and 60+% cheaper than business class!

These seats really cut down on the jetlag recuperation time..........
