Well certain people here are known to be abstaining...but it's catching on Globally...well in Australia at least things are getting better.

Besides missions in Thailand can go wrong health wise when you sweat and drink...not to mention pot holes and traffic crossings and motorbikes.

Reaching my late 50ies I have changed my habits in that field a lot... Am not abstinent now, but clearly reduced alc to a fraction of the old level I was used to... And I’m absolutely happy with it…
This became necessary after more and more nasty side effects of my occasional full night drinking while being in LOS… I have never been a really heavy drinker, not even in LOS… but still a night with drinking often resulted in some serious weakness of my *voice* which lasted for 2 or 3 days… So BKK often was a time of constant carking and croaking more than speaking clearly even days after my return… I really hated this effect and even noticed that it got worse every time it happened… Always needed a severe weeks long low alc profile to fully recover…
Getting older you can’t (or shouldn’t) go on with the old devil like there is no tomorrow… There is one... or should be... It feels much better to do some sport and keep my strength and fitness - my physical and personal integrity - instead of ignoring all signs of your body and heading for the final black out like a dumb…

Yes alcohol is not my drug of choice but so easy and unavoidable when married for long.
If I drink its never the hard stuff and at slow pace with food and never before 6 pm.
I only ever let the brakes of when ive absolutely nothing to do the next day as the hangovers get worse with age im sure.
I was a heavy drinker, heavy everything in my younger days but never so bad I became an alcoholic just recreational use never at home though typical bar fly.

It's nice that when one is not drinking alcohol, Thai girls still look good, as opposed to most Western women that one needs to be drunk to deal with.
