Need suggestions for the following:
need a phone number in the US that can be called from anywhere and that call will be transferred to my mobile in Thailand.
need a cheap way for my kids to call me in Thailand, mobile to mobile. Dont want to use computers for these issues.
I remain ignorant so help me out. Thanks.

Use Skype's Skpe-in feature. It's less than US$4 a month. You can get a number in almost any state, and then have that number forwarded to you in Thailand. You will have to pay for incoming calls, which is about $0.05 per minute.

Another service that is $2 /month and about 11 cents per minute to Thailand-Mobile (8c/min to Bangkok) is Telcan. People who want to call you can dial a toll-free number they assign you in the USA and the call is routed to anywhere in the world you designate.

I looked at the Skype website posted above. From what I can see (as BK says), after you pay the monthly fee, you pay for incoming calls that are forwarded to a Thailand phone. These calls are charged at:
- Thailand-Mobile: 11.5 cents per minute
- Thailand-Bangkok: 6.2 cents per minute
BK, what is the quality of the incoming forwarded call? Perfect as if they dialed it direct?

I have a cell plan from Cingular that allows for a montly charge of $4.95/month to use my "regular"minutes to call Thailand (and other countries) at no extra charge. Since I never use all the 300 minutes that are included in the basic monthly fee, it's a good deal for me.

Great idea for business-related calls - most of my calls to Thailand are for business. I have T-Mobile and I'm not aware of such a plan with them. One more thing - using this method, your cell phone number probably comes across on the caller ID display unless you remember to surpress it, which might be a very bad thing for "personal calls".
