Ideally, get a Mac - MacBook or MacBook Air.... but you won't, so here's something else: MSI Wind - good models, solid build - the problem with netbooks is the relatively restricted screen resolution. Most are 1024x600, which is very limiting. Some, like the Dell Mini 10 (not the 10v) have increased resolution options of 1366 x 768, which is very usable. mini 10 only comes with Windows XP, or a Linux Ubuntu option. I have experience with the MSI Wind U100, Dell mini 10, and Dell mini 10v - all good options. MSI Wind U100 and Dell mini 10v can be hacked to run Mac OS X - the mini 10 can't run anything else but what it ships with, due to the very restricted drivers for the video card. The problem with most of these is, of course, that they all run the same Windows crap.

Here is a study that I came across. The synopsis is here: "1 in 3 Laptops fail over 3 years: Netbooks fail 20% more than laptops; ASUS & Toshiba the most reliable Synopsis: SquareTrade analyzed failure rates for over 30,000 new laptop computers covered by SquareTrade Laptop Warranty plans and found that one-third of all laptops will fail within 3 years. Highlights of the study include: - Looking at the first 3 years of ownership, 31% of laptop owners reported a failure to SquareTrade. Two-thirds of this failure (20.4%) came from hardware malfunctions, and one-third (10.6%) was reported as accidental damage. - Netbooks are projected to have a 20% higher failure rate from hardware malfunctions than more expensive laptop computers. - ASUS and Toshiba were the most reliable manufacturers, with fewer than 16% having a hardware malfunction over 3 years.
