Well another item that is not mentioned yet. The Thai's know f*** all about what they are selling. Yesterday, I decided to do some electronics window shopping at Siam Paragon. Now there are some dedicated company stores like Pioneer, SONY, etc. I was looking for some new products. One from Pioneer that is planned for release in the USA this month. The other from Denon that is currently released in Singapore.

Now I did presume the Pioneer product would be available yet, but the sales staff and I use that term loosely did not have any clue to any future products. OK, now the normal response would be to for them to offer to contact the company and get back to you, maybe take your info for a future potential sale of >250K THB, but This is Thailand and all you will get is

Well on to the Power Mall for the Denon product. It seem I upset the staff there by asking a question that was interrupting their movie viewing. Again no clue.

The Thai's can continue to build these huge shopping complexes, but they really need to improvetheir customer service and training if they have any goal to become a world class shopping center.

Now this behavior is not reserved for Non-Thai speaking farangs. Even with Thai natives, most of the sales force do not have the appropriate level of knowledge about what they are selling and willing to give any extra customer service. Their main function seems to be being dressed up in the department's uniforma dn giving the Thai smile. Maybe if they gave BJ's with the purchases, I would change my opinion.

So the current state of shopping in Thailand is, If you know what you want and see it on the shelf you can buy it.

I will be planning my next trip to Singapore to buy some electronics. At least the Chinese know how to do business.

Ok so this morning hot after I wrote the above post, I decide to write an inquiry on the Singapore Pioneer website. In less than 2 hours I received this reply.

Dear Sir,

Our equivalent model will be the PDP-5000EX, which had been launched in Europe.

We are currently studying the market for this region and hope to launch it in Singapore soon. As for Thailand, we have no plan yet.

Best Regards,

Jonathan Wong

Now there is good customer service. Severely lacking in Thailand.

why buy them, you can download them for free.... each game is like 24mb - 50 mb (metroid prime hunters)

but if you really need to get them, try MBK.... game shops scattered throughout the Mobile phone floor, and on the 5th floor near the escalators...

Not every shop,
One staff in Power Mall Emporium, the fat guy from Pioneer, really helpfull a lot, he help my friend find good home theater choice to match his Sony Bravia series. He even have good knowledge about what he sold from little Micro DVD Home Theater to High Def DVD Player DV989AviG. As long as you speak Thai he will help you much better than any showroom in there.

But if you are really an audiophile better go to 3rd floor (or 4th?) of Fortune Town Mall in area that close enough with hotel. There are some High Def shop for high taste audiophile. And the guys in there mostly is the owner of the shop not the sales person. I was in there when look for High Quality HDMI Cables.

There are many other shops similar, but I am forgot in which area. They really do business and mostly run by Thai Chinese family. Shopping mall like Siam Paragon or others is only as display shop, if you really want buy things better go to chinatown area or something like that. My boss for example he want to buy Multimedia PC, he didn't go to IT Mall Siam Paragon, instead he go to other shop like Panthip or Fortune, well Fortune in other case is not a really good sample though, as they have some bad attitude staff.
