The issue with AT&T has nothing to do about having the 'latest toys', but plain and simple customer service, and providing the service (or lack therefof) you presumably pay for. As a company, they suck. ...which apparently has hit to spot now, as they are selling their wireless network, now that they have lost a significant amount of subscribers to T-Mobile once number portability became law. I guess they are bad businessmen too. Cingular done good picking up those assets, as it will flesh out their network, which is in dire need of additional capacity. As a company, Cingular is 'okay'. I'd be curious to see how they will hit the market after the acquisition is complete. In terms of customer service, T-Mobile rocks - they have adjusted my plans to newer, better plans in the past, without me having to call them. Now *that* is service. Harry

hzink, thanks for the info. on getting t-mobile to unlock my phone. I think I had only had service with them for 30 days at the time I tried, so perhaps that is the reason. I will try again before my next trip. I totally agree that T-mobile service has been clearly the best of the bunch, and I have tried them all! I hate Cingular's service. osten

MMS has never really taken off in Thailand and it seems to me like a total waste of time. It seems that whenever you send an MMS the recipient never receives it. There appear to be 3 problems. 1. You have to sign up for the service in Thailand - most people cant be bothered. 2. You have to configure your phone properly - most people cant be bothered 3. MMS messages cannot cross networks. Meaning that DTAC could only send to DTAC, AIS to AIS etc. Someone told me this has recently changed - even if this is the case, this problem in the past has been enough to put everyone off the service. Anyway bottom line is that MMS is not used in Thailand. Dont send one to your favorite BG cos she almost certainly hasnt set up her phone to receive it. Dont bother setting up your phone to receive MMS from BG cos she aint going to send one (which is a shame... 'hi this is a pic of me... in the shower!!') I have a Nokia hand grenade 6600. I have received over 1100 sms since mid March but not one MMS.

Interesting - didn't know that there were all of these interoperability issues with MMS over there. This might explain why MMS' sent from Thailand to some of my friends never arrived in the US. Major bummer. I wonder if e-mailing attachments, if the phone supports this capability, would work across platforms?

This is indeed my area of expertize, let me give you some inputs, MMS interop in Thailand is currently under Trial between AIS, DTAC and Orange. The Hutch solution cannot interop for the time being. For MMS from Oversee the best is to use a Web base interface and send from it. No Charge and guarantee of delivery. the DTAC SMS Rate is Flat for local or international SMS, 3 bath so there is no excuse for your TGF not to send you a message You can as well send her some pictures and/or ringtones via the WEB is you have a local subscription (Orange, DTAC or AIS). I would be more than happy to answer any specific question if I can help Cheers

Additionally, if you want your Thai AIS chip to be useful in the US (or other country), you can request international roaming to be turned on, and you can then use and access your number/chip even while abroad. This could be useful for accessing the phone to recharge, check balance, or send or receive messages. I did it, and it's kinda fun to have it work over here. Now, my last big question is how t remotely recharge the SIM card from the US, using the AIS/1-2-call web-page? Harry

I am told, and it is my experience, that while roaming you can receive SMS messages but you cannot send them. UPDATE: This restriction on sending SMS messages is for 1-2-call, not AIS contract phones.

Untrue, I sent and received SMS messages from NM while in the USA using AIS. This was for useful for me to hear that NM had my TGF in a gang bang while I was busy working in the USA. Thank you AIS As for NM
