I'm in California, have Cingular GSM service, and have been sending and receiving SMS to and from Thailand using my phone for the past 2 years, at least.
Be sure you have your phone set up to dial the SMS service, for Cingular: +12099042030
Outgoing international SMS are 20 cents and 10 cents incoming.
You can use 2 formats: 01166xxxxxxxx or +66xxxxxxxx
ex: for mobile number 095551212:
01166 9 5551212 or +66 9 5551212 (spaces inserted for clarity; do not use the mobile's leading 0)
Why screw around with some dippy web-based SMS provider, when you can get requests for cash from your Little Darling 24hrs/7days, and reply INSTANTLY with your PIN number?
Really, it works perfectly.

Good info, thanks! I've been thinking about changing carriers, and have been looking at Cingular. Have you used their global roaming service while in TH, or do you use 1-2-Go or Orange SIMs when in LoS?

Have cingular here
i use an unlocked aftermarket phone
When in LOS I use 12call
good svc thru out the Kingdom
Clear calls to the USA
Tried my 12Call card in the cingular issued phone
(the one I got when I signed up)
and it appeared to work with the thai sim card
i still have not been able to sms from my cingular phone here
the problem may be it is a unlocked phone not issued by cingular
however, the sms works perfect in the Kingdom

I use DTAC "Happy DPrompt" while in LOS in my unlocked, non-Cingular supplied Nokia 6100. It works swell. I don't use their global roaming service, due to the $1.99/minute charges, and the fact that I couldn't be hanged to talk to anyone in the US while I'm in Thailand. In a pinch, I use a calling card...
Really, billwilson...did you make sure you are calling the right SMS service number in the US? You should be able to send to AIS, DTAC, and Orange in Thailand, no problem.
As for replies, your TG may have to do some checking to make sure she is using the right dialing sequence in Thailand.
