Dr. Love. Please explain how you perceive spyware verses maleware (sp?) Spyware merely tracks keystrokes and maleware is the one that eats up memory? Is that it or is there more to it. The Webroot.com program I bought which didn't solve my problem listed what they called 41,000 definitiions of Adware/Spyware. Are you referring to adware as maleware. So were all the definitions for maleware? Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk or to argue. My original question stands that I just don't understand what is the driving force behind all of the shit that is happening to our computers these days. If you notice the time stamp on a thread I started an hour before this one I posted the http://www.geekstogo.com website so that those who have a problem can address it before it's too late as was the case with me. I just recently found that site.

Please allow me to do some minor T-Fing. Still tech related though not spyware or malware. Can anyone suggest a good simple utility to make text files of your files names? In other words, to get a printout of the file names inside a folder. Hopefully this would also allow me to make a printout of the URLs of my bookmarks in Firefox. I had long ago a good screen-capture utility, but I lost it. And a problem with that one was that it would exactly only capture what I could see on screen. Thus if the page was larger than the screen, I had to save several files and start later doing some reduction, cut and pasting with other software to fit all the page in one single file.

DOS From the command prompt type 'DIR > FILES.TXT' (without the quotes) This will do a dir listing of the directory you're in and send it to a text file called FILES.TXT.

Smegma, Try http://www.download.com and do a search on 'print directory', there are probably dozens of freeware utilities. Don't know if they will help with your URLs since they are not filenames, but they may have another utility for that. The problem with doing it from the DOS prompt, is that DOS only supports 8.3 filenames. Pressing the <print screen> key will copy the current screen image to the clipboard, which you can then paste into the Paint application, but doesn't help your scrolling problem. (BTW, <ALT><Print Screen> copies the current window image). Again, on download.com, there is a popular utility called 'CaptureWizPro Screen Capture' that is supposed to handle the scrolling for you.

Whoops, silly me. I obviously wasn't specific enough. I meant a Windows DOS command prompt, or simply 'command prompt'. No problem with non-8.3 filenames (hasn't been since, oh Windows 95 I believe, which was the first properly commercially available MS Windows/DOS combo OS to support LFNs -- MS DOS 7.0). So, assuming you're running an MS OS less than 10 years old, simply CD to c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Favourites where you will find all your IE Favorites stored as regular non-8.3 filenames. Simply type 'dir > list.txt' and you will have all your favourites in a text file which you can print or edit at will. EDITED IN: I'm a twat. You're using Firefox -- it can, but doesn't have to use the same folder as IE for its favourites. You may have to locate your Firefox favourites folder and change to that folder first, before doing the DIR listing and redirecting the output to a file rather than the screen.

That's because it's not 'their' product, they bought another commercial product -- give them a few revisions to screw it up. Additionally, wait until they introduce their plan to charge for it, and how they will do it -- makes sense to charge for fixing a problem that they caused, doesn't it? Dr. von Quack!
