If one were DUMB enough to run m$-winbloat on their Mac AND go out to the internet via m$-winbloat, any viruses picked up would be contained within m$-winbloat and would not spread to the Mac operating system.

Your welcome Daff

Mate I was properly reading about ten years before you were conceived.

It's just a game to me

Quote from Daffy:
Those are classics indeed, and make it obvious as to the satirical nature of thay article. Seriously, thanks Jingjo, this was a great article --

Now slow down when I get you excited.

Analysts and journalists are often quick to point out Apple’s relatively low overall market share (less than 10%). But that completely misses the point of Apple’s Mac business. If Apple wanted to make a range of low-end computers, it absolutely could. And such machines would sell like crazy, boosting Apple’s market share. But there would have to be some trade-off in quality, and perhaps more importantly to Apple, to its high margins. And as it has proven time and time again, it has no desire to give up either.

Instead, Apple is content to keep churning out its high-quality, high-margin machines, and watch the profits roll in. If it happens to gain market share as a byproduct of that, that’s great. You can’t be so naive to think that Apple doesn’t care about that at all, of course it does, but it’s clearly a secondary goal, which most people don’t seem to understand.

It’s a metaphor that’s often used, but a way to think about it is if Windows-based PCs as a whole are thought of as a top selling car like the Toyota Camry, Apple’s Mac computers would be more like a luxury car, like a Porsche. Porsche sales are just a fraction of Camry sales because it does not sell any models in the low-end price range. But at the same time, Porsche makes more money on each car sold and maintains a premium branding. If Porsche started selling cheap cars, it would move a lot more units, but it would no longer be the Porsche brand that we know.

That’s not to say the Camry sucks or that the Porsche is perfect. They’re just two different cars that cater to different markets. And they represent the two different goals that most Windows-based PCs have (market share) versus Apple’s Mac computers (high-end revenue share).

And that’s why Microsoft’s recent Laptop Hunter commercials really never made a lot of sense. Sure, from a marketing perspective, I understand the idea: It’s a down economy, lets play up the fact that our computers are cheaper. But in many of the spots, the shopper’s stated desired computer was simply not something that Apple even made. In the famous first commercial, Lauren wants a laptop with a 17-inch screen for under $1,000. Okay, Apple doesn’t make that product. So of course she’s not going to buy a Mac.

The real point is that people who are shopping for computers where price is the key factor, were never going to buy Macs anyway. They never have. There is a reason Apple still has less than 10% market share. Did Microsoft need to spend millions of dollars on commercials to tell us that?

Instead, those commercials set up a narrative around the bifurcation of the computer-buying public. And today’s NPD numbers are the perfect ending to that story. If you’re a consumer looking for a bargain computer, you’re happy to save money buying a PC. If you’re looking for a premium computer, you’re happy to spend more money buying a Mac,but Daffy if we wanted to hear a Preacher most of us would go to Church.

No one's knocking the apple product!

We just Love having some fun with you as you take the bait every time.

Well said....lolol. The high end market for computers, as far as performance, speed, graphics, go involve gamers. That is the consumer top of the line user that demands the highest performing consumer computer. Mac has never filled that market. Most games aren't even ported for Mac.

The only thing that kept Apple for simply vannishing was it's introduction of the IPod. If that hadn't happened It's hard to say if Apple would have survived.

There certainly more people in the high end market, those working in visualization and animation.

You're right - I guess that's why Apple owns 90% of the market of all computers priced $1,000 and above.

Must be a real bummer not to know what you are talking about.

Don't delude yourself -- gamers don't represent a significant portion of that 'above $1,000' market.

Your above $1000 market is very small in terms of units sold.........lolol, and Apple isn't the leader in that range either.....lol. Still, if it wasn't for the Ipod Apple would be gone.......lolol.

The Mac holder on's are like the people that still believe the hype left over from the early 90's when Mac was the leader in graphics. They still refuse to believe there is anything better, and refuse to accept the fact that Mac is just an overpriced outdated business model that can't meet the needs of most users, no matter what their price range.....lol.

Taken from the Apple Insider---- Apple does not rank amongst the top 5 PC vendors worldwide, and hence no data was reported for the company in the global demographic.

Nicfrenchy:

Well, you definitely get more power per buck with a PC, and Dell makes excellent PCs. In the work environment, with a good tech support team, I would have thought that regardless of any problems PCs/Windows may or may not have over and above those of Macs, somebody would have done the math by now if Macs really were cheaper over all, including maintenance costs etc, and most well run businesses would be running Macs: they don't, and therefore I think we can only conclude that in the business environment, even when all costs are included, PCs are better value. Or maybe Windows is more geared towards being maintained on a large network, I've no idea.

And he is 100% right, anything you can do with a Mac, you can do with a PC. If you know what you are doing, which presumably he does.

Still prefer the way Macs feel, and, like I say, that's as a recent convert to Mac. I'm quite relaxed about having spent £300 extra just for my own personal pleasure. And, like I say, not having to keep on remembering how the hell to sort out my computer when it f***s up (I'm not a techie, so while I have accumulated knowledge on how to sort out Windows, and am able to use help/google to find out what I don't know, it isn't like I don't have to scratch my head and think and try and remember how the hell I sorted it out last time) is a really lovely bonus too. And I like the fact that when I want to dabble in something I don't know anything about, the learning curve to low level competence (ie, enough to muck around) is far shallower with a Mac.

To a point -- most of those making that claim usually do not know what they are doing, at least creatively, and even less so technically -- just my personal experience, and YMMV.

The real reason is that most IT departments are populated by PC weanies, that are pushing their own agendas, just like in all corporations - thus it matters woefully little if the end users demand, or need Macs, they will try to push PCs on them, because that's what they understand. I deal with this on a nearly daily basis. It's always the same, until at one point the creative business units cut off the IT group, and hire their own support, either consultants, or in-house Mac support. Books could be written on this.
