For the users of mobiles with a pre-paid SIM (plans like One 2 Call, Happy DPrompt etc.) things are very much up in the air at the moment. There has been much talk in the press that everyone using such an account will have to provide their details to the mobile company. How this works for folks who are out of the country and only use the number during their infrequent trips to the Kingdom, I do not know. There are also various stories going around the various Thai grapevines at the moment about people being approached by bearded geezers covered in a bed sheet wanting to buy their mobile with SIM at a price far in excess of its real value! I kid you not! Even Mrs. Stick told me to be careful of such people, though she needn't have.

The new rules are not on yes beucase no one know what to do at all.
Some guy already selling books were we can register the SIM and our passport but he was a fraud and made a handsome profit.

I should recomend any one that want to have have sim and not show passport BUY ONE NOW. Me or any one living in Thailand will be sure to help you keep them until you come here and refill them if needed.

Just a question brought on by something I was told recently.

Is it true that you have to register with your Sim provider before 16th November or they will disable your sim? I have heard before that all new phone users have to register but someone told me that all existing users also have to.

This will be difficult for me as I am out of the country until 1st Dec so I am hoping if it is true you can register retrospectively and keep your number.

Anyone heard anything about this???

They all have to be registered by a certain date....not sure when that date is....but they'll cut them off after that date...so they say...TIT...who knows for sure...easy to register...any Telewiz shop will do it.

It maybe easy to register but if you are not in the country I doubt someone can do it for you as I would imagine they need your ID Passport or something.

I just hope as you say TIT, maybe they will wait until you try to use it and give you some time to register, or am I being way too optimistic here??

assuming the date is the end of the year, they'll have given you over 6 months already....how much more time do people need.

As for being out of the country......does anyone really think that Thaksin cares about a few foreigners losing their cards?

Of course not.

It just means they will have to buy a new sim and in so doing so will have to spend more money in Thailand.

"Apparently" this registration only applies to new applicants in certain provinces in the South.

I will wait and see and probably register anyway when I get back
