Recently saw INTERNATIONAL sim numbers advertised in Bangkok. I think I recall the numbers displayed all began 060-........ Anybody can explain what this and plus and/or minus. Thanks.

Never seen this but a thought.
Many numbers in Thailand do not have international access. especially those on post payment.
Prepaid numbers have international access as you have already paid to make calls.
Some numbers also can have roaming as many providers have agreements with other providers in other countries.
If in doubt ask! This is only a guess knowing some of the hurdles of the Thai service providers.
My Mias phone cannot dial international numbers but can send/receive international SMS and can receive international calls.
To be able to call me I have had to buy a second phone and prepaid SIM for her to be able to call me.

hey guys,
I thought this was an appropriate thread for my query.
I just bought a "chocolate bar" phone for my wife...when we go to Thailand in November can we just buy a SIM card at MBK?
I know when I moved back from Thailand my phone, from MBK, worked here with a new SIM.
I am gonna buy a phone for myself anyway and give it to her mother as a present when we leave...but I was just curious if a thai SIM card will interact with american cell phone.
any advice is appreciated boys.

atl, your US cell will work with a Thai SIM if it is tri or quad band, so long as it is unlocked i.e. not part of a contract with a US phone company. You can buy SIM's anywhere, every shopping centre will have them, not just MBK.
JJ, all the international pre-paid SIM's l have seen advertised allowing you to keep your number as you travel the globe have a very high per minute rate ($++), almost as high as roaming with a post paid account. If you must keep the same number worldwide and don't care about the cost then fine, but buying a SIM for each country especially in Asia is much cheaper even if it is slightly inconvenient at times.

I don't know about all 7-11s, but the one next to my apartment sells SIM cards there now. You can see them hanging on the wall next to the smokes.
World SIMs are a waste of time unless your company is paying for it. You might be able to make calls over here, but no thai girl is going to call a USA number to talk to you.
SIMs are cheap all around the globe, get one for the country you are in.
Don't even get me started on how f***ED the mobile phone Industry is in the USA. If the American public actually knew how bad those companies have them by the balls they would be protesting in the streets. Fortunately most never leave the USA to see how easy the rest of the world has it for Mobile phones and service.

Hong Kong, China, Japan, Mexico....
And some plans in Amereka have free incoming calls.
