Hi Bros,
I was looking at a small software application I'd like to develop for sale here in California. Of course since I'm currently a simpering corporate toadie I have no time. When I've looked at things like web development in Thailand it was cheap to get done. What I don't know is are there small groups that are affordable to here to actually do some simple software development (no I don't want to do it in India or China). It would be for a mobile application.
My wife is Thai so it is natural for me to do it in LOS. It looks like the average programmer in LOS is cheap anyway does anyone know or am I crazier perhaps than I thought.

Whats the reason you need it done in thailand, or don't want it done in India?
Just post the job on elance / rent a coder and then you award it to whoever you think is best. It doesn't matter where they are located.

Okay I give up.
As for India it'd be better to get it done here in the US than there. In India it's an excuse factory and they just take what you paid for and give to their friends to sell in the states. They have a much better connection to the US market than the Thais do.

Most of the LOS websites I see are pretty lame, so I am not sure how much real expertise there is in Thailand. Also, it sounds like your application may be more complicated than a simple web page.
You might try getting some high school or college students in the US to do it at a reasonable price. They may even be willing to do it for a fixed price if you have decent specs.

I don't believe it's impossible to find a decent programmer in Thailand, who is able to build a website project to your specifications -- I just believe that it is difficult, and that it requires lots of programming of the programmer - so the question becomes, if it is worth the time you will invariably spend on it?
Unless you find an American living in Thailand, with that kind of expertise.

Where does he say he wants a website developed?
Torq, why you giving up? I already pointed out to you the simplest way to do this. It's not rocket science.
You post the job on elance or where ever you prefer. You collect the quotes and then decide which look good. Then you read the feedback on them posted by other users of the site. If they don't have a lot of good feed back don't use them.
Then you ask them for further references. Then you ask them to complete certain test projects, so you can further gauge the quality and suitability of their work.
You only pay once you are happy with the finished project.
By the time you've finished with all this, the chances of them taking your secret and selling it to the world are very minimal.
It doesn't f***in matter where they are located.
