Hi, I was at the Immigration Office in Bangkok (Suan Plu) recently and they had leaflets hanging all over there to announce that starting March 15, 2006 the fine for overstay will be raised from 200 Baht per day to 500 Baht per day. Cheers Tilac

Found this in my inbox: TO UNSUBSCRIBE TO THIS NEWSLETTER CLICK REPLY AND TYPE UNSUBSCRIBE IN THE SUBJECT LINE. VINCE'S VISA NEWSLETTER NEWSLETTER MARCH 2006 S&A Co., Ltd. 01 373-8846 To all our friends and customers who still support our service DON'T CONFESS DON'T CONFIDE AND DON'T TALK TOO MUCH IMPORTANT NEWS ON OVERSTAYS Dismissing rumors, speculations and anxiety reporting from inaccurate visa websites we confirm that as of 15th March 2006 overstay fees will be increased. The current 200 baht a day overstay will rise to 500 baht a day. Maximum charge of 20,000 baht over one hundred days will remain the same. (For now at least) Crackdowns are evident and if you are unlucky enough to be stopped with an overstay don't expect the lenience of the past. Detainment, court appearance and deportation and black listing is on the agenda. Clear your overstays now, call us on 01 37338846 before it is too late. BORDER CROSSINGS If you are tired of those meaningless trips to Cambodia for your visa run, if you are tired of early morning departures, if you are running out of pages in your passport due to the multitude of Cambodian visas, if you were happier when you could have your extension done without all the hassle. Call us! Our services have fully resumed for cross Thai- Malaysian border runs without you having to leave. We are pleased to be hearing from many of our old regular customers and welcome new ones. Please call us if you are looking to obtain a new visa without leaving as we can have it issued for you in Penang or the UK for Brits and Europeans. Please read multiple entry visas paragraph. PENANG Air Asia has cancelled their evening flights from Penang to Bangkok which means if you are flying to Penang for a visa you will now need to stay two nights in Penang. You can leave on the early morning flight from Bangkok and return two mornings following from Penang. Please call us to make arrangements for our package visa tour. VISAS Remember, if you are the registered father of a child from a Thai born in Thailand you can apply for a one-year non-immigrant O multiple entry visa. If you have had a registered marriage to a Thai before and are separated, divorced and are still looking for a long term visa please call us and we can tell you how you can apply for a long term visa. Many people are unaware of this! We are sending more and more applicants for multiple entry visas to Penang, this visa can be obtained, if you are retired, married or have children born in Thailand. If you have a work permit you can also apply for a one-year visa. MULTIPLE ENTRY VISAS We can once again acquire one year multiple entry visas non O and non B for British and European passport holders. These are issued in the UK. Please call us for further details. TERMINATING WORK PERMITS When you resign or finish a position with a school or company where you had a work permit, it is their responsibility to cancel the work permit. Make sure you get and keep your tax ID card and a copy of any tax receipts that may have been paid. You will need these, if you apply for a new work permit at another employer. We get many people who receive conflicting advice on what they must do when they hand in their work permit. Some people are told they must go to immigration department and hand in their passport. If you do that you will be given only 7 days to leave the country. If you still have a period of stay extended by immigration (for up to one year) you will still be able to stay until that date. No immigration department can change an entry in their computer without notifying you or having your passport. If you don't go there, they will not know of your status. The last entry in your passport is the same as in the computer system at Immigration. If you are applying for a new job with a work permit, you will need to leave Thailand and obtain a new non-immigrant B visa. If you want to stay on here without working until the departure date in your passport, you will not have any problems when leaving the country, as some of our customers recently found out after being given misleading advice. These are scare tactics by employers who want to keep people on the job. Some people appear to enjoy causing anxiety to others. Please call us if you are concerned or are in this situation. RETIREMENT If you are of retirement age and want to apply for a one year multiple entry visa through us, please go to your embassy first to obtain an official letter/document that states you are retired. This official document most certainly convinces the Penang Consulate, that you are in fact retired. A minimum of 200,000 baht in a Thai bank account is also required with a letter of authorization from the bank. Please call us on 01-373-8846 for more information. Remember you only have to be fifty years of age to apply for this. PROBLEMS CAN BE SOLVED Forget the guy falling off his stool next to you in the bar, don't worry about that policeman friend of a friend who can tell you what to do, don't pay exorbitant money up front from companies advertising in the classifieds before they do anything, call us and we will give you free advice. If we don't know we will call while you wait, free assistance is part of our service. We specialize in long overstays, one way departures and advice concerning marriage, anyone who has a problem with no one to turn to or are getting conflicting advice from know it all websites please call us direct. MEDICAL INSURANCE Too many people throw caution to the wind when it comes to medical expenses. Thailand can be very costly, if you are seriously injured or require surgery with no insurance cover. We recommend Blue Cross International Insurance locally. For a modest sum each year, you can rest assured your medical expenses will be taken care of should you require hospitalization. Please call us for more details. WORK REQUIRED If you are one of our regular customers and have your own business or specialized service and would like a bit of free advertising please email us a paragraph description of your work and we will be happy to include it in our newsletter. The parts 'Border Crossing' and 'Multiple Enty Visas' make me wonder.... And: 'Maximum charge of 20,000 baht over one hundred days will remain the same.' Am I missing something here? BTW A professional using geocities for his company website makes you think...

How can you obtain a visa without leaving the country? Surely there would be no exit stamp in your passport to say you had left the country, yet you have a visa in there. I am sure this is illegal. How would you explain to the police or immigration when you get stopped in the street/bar that your pasport in currently in Malaysia while you are in Thailand Remember a few years ago that this was apparently common. Turned out to be dodgy and many people got screwed over. I once used this guy to obtain a Non Im B (legitimately). Basically all he did was advise me what paperwork I needed and had me driven from Hat Yai to a visa agent in Penang. Got there and, despite Vinces advice, I had the wrong paperwork. The visa agent just said "Vince doesnt know what is needed". Basically all Vince did was arrange travel and introduce me to the visa agent. Easier to cut him out and do it yourself IMO. The overstay fine has definitely risen to Bt 500 per day, and the maximum is still Bt 20,000
