Just read on another forum about changes to the Visa on arrival rules. It appears the 30 day period has been changed to 15 days.

The thread at 1st suggests the change only applies to people entering LOS by land, and that if you enter by the airport you still get 30 days.

But then a poster on that thread says he has just arrived by air from Singers and says there were signs up at the airport that the Visa on arrival is now 15 days.

Here's a link to that thread:

http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/paperwork/37168-15-days-travelling-through-singapore-and-malaysia.html

Thought BTF members might be interested to know about this. Has anyone on here got any recent experience or knowledge of this that they can share; or am I simply misunderstanding the thread?

Thanks Doc. I missed your 5 December post. I should have UTFSE before posting.

Sounds like I can stop worrying about my visa on arrival for my 1 month trip starting in April as I will be arriving at BKK from UK.

Sure, no problem with a 30 day trip in that case. And remember, you can also get a 7 day extension in Bangkok.

Ok question for the experts before I start contacting the thai embassy. 30 day on arrival still good and 7 day extension. But say you arrive get 30 day and want to flip over the border to cambodjia for a few days?

This is considered leaving ? so need special visa for repeated entry.
Im guessing so but not experienced.

Think you'd be advised to get an update on that as there has been a lot of changes in past 2-3 years.

You can firstly extend 30 days not 7 by going to immigration

1900 baht.....its been in force two years
No visa run required

Secondly you can enter Thailand by air again and receive 30 days ( if you leave and come back based on your long absence ) /

Rorters less successful.

Have 20,000 handy and exit ticket to your homeland dress neat - By land

Yes it seems lots of changes. I saw 30 day on arrival and 7 day expension on an official site. Also a post from this month on a legal law site mentioning 30 days and 30 day extension. All good for long stayers but im only looking for the possibilty's withing the 30 day visa on arrival. If you intend to stay only 2 months saves the hassle of going to an embassy though and pay for a visa you wont hardly need and easy to extend in the country.

Yes it mentions you may be asked to show a return ticket and 10 k cash each. But probably at the discretion of the officer if you look like a hippy they give you 15 days.

What was interesting for me was I read that like for backpacker's wanting to visit more countries and go in and out this is possible with a maximum of 2 times.

The multiple entry visa is for a longer time and I only want for max 4 weeks total time, so within the original 30 days.

Im travelling with my 18 year old half thai son to visit family in Bangkok. But also some other places Pattaya, Ko Samet, Kanchaburi.

I have alway wanted to see Angkor Wat and Cambodjia seems close enough to just wip over the border for a few days all within the 30 day visa.I have the opportunity to do this now since the divorce as before it was b-kok or patts.

Junior does not share my hobby''s so I need to keep him amused. Although I could land in Pattaya and completely loose the plot.
Need to do stuff with my son too. But thinking it may be too much after all the rest.

I thought about this over a year ago in Manilla. Thats also 30 day on arrival and when we left for Japan the guy asked ''are you come back'' indicating our valid visa. But I had booked the return home from Tokyo, so never found out.

You seem to forget that as soon as you leave Thailand, and go into another country, like Cambodia, your Thai tourist visa, or tourist visa exempt stamp, expires. It doesn't continue on when you cross back into Thailand. You can not get a reentry permit for a tourist visa or exemption stamp.

You get a new stamp when you reenter Thailand. If you come across the border by land it is for 15 days, no exceptions. It doesn't matter how much you impress immigration that you're not a backpacker. If you fly in then it is another 30 days. This is set in stone, no exceptions. With a 30 day stamp you can get a 30 day extension for bt1900. The 15 day stamp will get you a 7 day extension for bt1900.

If you watch the promotions and book ahead you can get real good airfare deals on AirAsia to Angkor Wat.

I'd say go into Cambodia less than 2 weeks before you are flying home then no visa hassles.

Wasn't sure to be honest, but thats what I wanted to confirm. I have never had anything other than a visa on arrival and never extended. But I suspected it must be like that.

So if I just want another week in Bangkok before flying home a 15 day visa is enough.

Everything depends on how my son hits it off with the family in b-kok.
He was 11 last time they saw him and he has a lot of half sisters. But a few days in Pattaya is also enough for me.

Thanks for the confimation.Thanks everyone.

I was looking at a map of Thailand and got carried away with my new found freedom and thought He ! Angkor Wat and Cambodjia look very close.
