My feeling is that everything in life is relative.
Roughly speaking I believe that Bt80k will give you the same lifestyle as Bt160k in the UK. (I exclude chicks in this). I think this is a generous assessment - meaning that Bt80k will give you a life 'at least' equivalent to Bt160k a month in the UK.
If you have a high standard of living in the UK, Bt80k isnt going to go far - may not even be enough for what you describe as a 'decent apartment'.
But you will get at least twice the 'bang for your buck' here!!

80k should do fine. Plus commission and with the knowledge of securities in the uk. No problem.
When you work here you cannot party all of the time. Gotta work!
Weekends out with a soay midweek is nice though.
Get an apartment out of the city, near the BTS. Don't need a car too much.
It could be the time of your life!

Hi Anon, I think 80K is enough to live on. Only question is what do you need. Speaking for my self as a tourist I can live on 2K per day. This is hotel, girl + expenses.
As for hotel that means around 500 per day. This is nice but not great. Defenitly not how you want to live your life. But apartments can be cheaper and better. Look at the apartment section what you want and or need. You can calculate this as a given amount. Say 20K per month. Check if this can give you your needs. Ask the forummembers if it is near your work, if there are hidden costs. Do your homework.
As for girls that means 1K per day. So that is 30K per month. Do you want 1 girl every day? You want 2? You want ST or LT? For a LT 1K is on the cheap side. And this is not counting the barfine. So in BKK I would say expect your girl for 24 hours will cost you 2K and every day that makes 60K per month.
My rest 500 I use for food and travel and such. As a tourist my feeding is always OUT. That means you can save on this. Travel is cheap so I would NOT buy a car in BKK unless you have a fetish with standing still in your own car. BKK is a 24 hour trafficjam. The few minutes they move, they move like crazy. Do it on your own risk.
So as a tourist you can easily spend 80K per month. I'm a cheapbastard, but the 1K per day from BigD is only for the lucky few, that realy know their business and have found some cheap pussy. So unless you run with the backpackerscrowd and live like a monk expect a higher cost of living.
So you can figure out your apartment costs now. Say you need only 500 per day for basic living. Add to that your average needs from newspapers to haircuts and cloths. The money that is left over is for girls. And that is one of your biggest and most flexible costs. Calculate that at 2K per girl per day and you know how many girls you can do for your 80K.
Don't expect your commission will get you thru it. You need to prepair for the worst. You are not in the UK where you know in advance how big your commission will be. This is thailand people are different here.
So take the job if you can live of the 80K. If you need your commision I would have second thoughts and third and fourth. I can live of 80K, but as I already mentioned I'm cheap. How cheap are you?????
Oh, and don't fall for the trap that thailand is cheap. Compaired to the UK it is realy cheap, but if you don't have a firm grip on your self, you will spend like crazy BECAUSE it is so cheap. Every trip I'm amazed how quickly my money vanishes. If you are interested in luxury items (like electronics or drinks in bars) you will quickly discover that you were not so worse off in the UK.

instead of going item by item how does LOS (SEA) compare to UK (europe) I'd say compare your 'take home' pay & your housing costs at current & proposed locations & there I'd say roughly if you can get earn half of the cash in BKK you can in Eurpe then you're better off as you shold rather easily be able to find a nicer apt. for half the cost in greater london or other major metropolitan areas!

if you live here is a different story.
80K is perfectly doable.
you can be okay on 5K during the week and 10K on the weekend.
and still afford appartment for 20K in the center.
guess some commission will pour in aswell.

I've talked to more then a few expat's and they pay their live in GF around 10K per month.
Living on 1K per day including hotel and GF is not hard to do. I didn't go out drinking everyday but I don't do that at home as my liver would kill me. I had a good time with this budget.
