From your use of the word "legal" here and your use of the word "illegal" in another Thread ( "Subway Crash Injures 100" ) it appears that you use these terms in a looser form than how they are commonly understood.
Just for your information - it is NOT illegal to employ a foreigner ( farang included ) NOR are any jobs "proscribed" for farangs or foreigners.
It is true that certain businesses are reserved only for Thais and for foreigners to undertake those businesses is illegal.
BUT not for jobs.
Having said that - the Thai Government does make it very difficult to employ foreigners ( including farangs ) for any job that can, in theory, be performed by a Thai. The control point is when the Work Permit ( based on which a Visa is issued ) is applied for.
However as long as a Company can establish that the said foreigner is absolutely necessary for the business ( whether because of technical knowledge ; ability to secure export business ; locally unavailable expertise ; etc.) then obtaining approval for the Work Permit and resultant Visa is a piece of cake.

Arramsey, sorry to correct you on that. But some jobs (as in activities) are reserved only for Thai nationals. Just check Thai Law BE2522 and you will find 39 activities prohibited to foreigners. Among them casting of Buddha images, hat making, hair cutting, making knives, giving legal advice, and a few more.

you couldnt get a work permit as a cook in a thai restaurant in bangkok.
but I could get a work permit as a swiss chef in a 5 star hotel.
thats the difference....

It's true that giving legal advice is a 'banned to farang' profession, but you know those wily lawyers. They always find ways around such obstacles.
We employ 6 farang lawyers, but we don't call them lawyers. We just call them 'consultants'. Problem solved.
