There are a number of Independent Financial Advisers in Bangkok who specialise in giving advice to expats. However you would need to have knowledge of offshore financial products or a strong IFA background. Unfortunately there have been a lot of 'advisers' who were complete cowboys and just signed up people on completely unsuitable mid to long term savings plans. Once signed they never saw the client again. These guys gave everyone in the industry a bad name, but fortunately people wised up to these tactics and the ones left are, usually, very professional. The financial and insurance companies, whose products the IFAs sell, will not deal with mickey mouse firms anymore. The local offices of these financial and insurance firms are generally based in Hong Kong.

There are still opportunities out there but you will be basically self employed working on a commission only basis. Still possible to make good money if you are self motivated and a good sales person though. I would suggest searching the internet for Independent Financial Advisers or Expat Financial Advisers and find a list of companies. Check them out, then e-mail your c.v. It is still a pretty saturated market though, with a lot of advisers chasing the same business, hence why people like Scobie get cold called frequently

A good tip for dealing with IFAs is to check if they have a fully registered company in Thailand, and if the sales staff have work permits. If not I wouldnt touch them with a barge pole. The ones that do meet this criteria can really help expats take full advantage of their expat status.
