Ran into a few guys that mention they use a Visa run service. They pay 4500 baht to someone that takes a bunch of passsports to Cmabodia and back. No need to personally go yourself. They have been doing it for years. I certainly wouldn't give up my PP, just passing the info

Very dangerous info!
This is highly illegal.
On a number of occassions, foreigners were arrested or banned from Thailand because of false stamps. There is also a warning in Poi Pet about this practice.
BTW It costs only THB 1,300 to make a visa run. Why pay THB 4,500?

M friend has been overstaying far too long. > 180 days Any update information how he should leave the country? Have good contacts to high immigration dpt. officer so he will certainly not being detained, but if max is 20.000 THB (If this is still so) then maybe he just goes to the airport...
What do you think?

I understand from CSI Miami that blowfish powder will induce a state of suspension that is almost indistinguishable from death and can last from hours to days.
Maybe if you dusted him with the powder and flew the body home. When he arrives he awakes from the dead and 'Lordy it is a miracle' 
Seriously, this guy should contact his embassy and seek their help and advice. Sure they may only charge him Bt 20,000 but contacts or not they could just as likely jail him.
If Bt 20,000 is all the law requires it is better to have it arranged by the Embassy so he can be sure to get his 'get out of jail free' card...

If he has these contacts, perhaps he should use them. Then again, alerting the "wrong" person to his overstay status prior to his immediate departure might be a big mistake.
A final suggestion would be for him to look on http://www.Thaivisa.com to find out other people's experiences in long overstays.

From what I've seen people have to pay. But as CG wisely suggests, may be a time to Very Carefully make inquiries concerning his connections...
However, as CG also advises... the few people I've known who had thought they had some good connection at the DTOR MOR, the Immigration, found out that sooner or later it wasn't so great and wound up paying it more nervously than they would have before.

I have known guys in overstay.
One a period of a year and the other a period of nearly two years.
It's a crazy situation to let oneself get into.
O.K., there are some people who genuinely forget the date for a few days or even a week.
And then there are the few newbie travellers who haven't yet learnt that visas have time limits.
But to purposefully let things drag on and have to live under the constant threat of it being discovered, surely can only be sought by gluttons for punishment and extra stress.
But to return to the idea of thinking that one can sort out the whole mess with a powerful contact or two or someone very high up in a Department, particularly in the Immigration Department, you would be totally wrong.
Your passport is stamped. Your over stay is logged. The amount of your overstay fine that you paid ( or in this case not paid ) is logged. And.................The Ministries are becoming more and more inter-connected every month.
With your connection somewhere high up in the traffic Division or the Customs and Excise or any section, you may escape payment.........this time.
But your passport will not show that you have paid.
So.....if and when you come across another thai official at another port of entry or a Thai Embassy or on a road or wherever.......it will be noted that you have not yet paid your overstay fine.
Is your contact or the bribe you paid to get off the first time going to be available a second time or a third ?
You will have to call upon your influencial friend every time you touch officaldom or it touches you.
And if you've paid once, don't think that that will be the end of it. No way.
It is recoded.
Here is a guy who will pay his way out of a problem.
