I thought the subject of this post was about appearances in public?
Most Thai people dress extremely casually at home or in their own villages or on their farms. But if they go out they will always make an effort to dress up and look respectable.
For some reason some farangs believe it is acceptable to walk around looking like a slob (and this includes women) anywhere they like simply because they are either on holidays or because "it's hot".

isnt the idea of going on holiday to let loose. so what if tourist look like tourist. pardon me but most thai s are not what you call dressed to kill. people you got to learn to lub the tourist, we bring money so you can rip us off! lol.

I wouldn't worry too much about impressing the locals if you are on holiday.
Wear what you like as they are only interested in the money anyway and are used to if working in tourist areas to what farangs wear on holidays.
If you are working in Thailand that may be a different story as you may have to conform to their standards of dress if you are to succeed.

If you are on holiday dress down as much as you can hey you paid for it. No one can say the thais are keeping the flag high when they are on holiday. Look at them dressing down on Cham am beach you will look overdressed in your Quicksilver shorts
