Did some minor research and a 9MM can run up to 100K baht, and initial report is that a farang can't get a license.

Anyone know where a farang can purchase a gun (mainly a 9MM for around 30-50K baht) and if we can obtain a license.

100K is a bit expensive for a 9MM, and I'm not sure how much a license will cost.

Gun for home protection.

an ex GF once bought a pistol with a clip of rounds for 6,000 Baht on Asoke, she was displeased with my behaviour, it was a threat, hence she's my ex ! I got the impression she just asked the taxi tout mafia at the end of Cowboy and hung around while it was sorted, however I seriously would not suggest doing that.

Would you not be wiser to get one of those steel battons and a couple of tazers, I have a few tazers in my house, hidden away in various points of the house just in case, amazing how unsafe you start to feel after being here for several years.

Skeeter:

As a farang, you will not be able to get a gun permit. If you are married, your Thai wife can apply for a permit and, if approved, you can go on with the purchase.

The permit will be explicit as to the type of weapon (i.e..9mm,.50 caliber, shotgun, etc.) and that is what you must purchase. The license itself is not expensive.

You will not be able to travel with the weapon unless the permit says you can and, if this is the case, your Thai wife must be with you at all times. Any time you use the weapon, your Thai wife must be present, so if you shoot an intruder in your home, make certain your wife is handy. This is strictly controlled as well.

I had a friend who, many years ago, permitted his Thai GF to store her weapon (a.22 pistol) in his home. She got mad at him, reported the gun to the police and he was arrested. Cost him $20,000 to get out of it and he was declared PNG at the airport.

In other words, Thai authorities trust a 22 year old Thai girl with no experience more than they trust an older farang, possibly a retired military officer.

Shotguns are somewhat cheaper than a.9mm and are, in my opinion, much more effective as an intruder buster. I have heard BKK is the place to buy but they ain't cheap.

I have thought about getting an RPG in Cambodia for those occasions when somebody might wish to covet my property but haven't done it yet.

Good luck with your quest.

My wife has a cousin who has a 'freind' who has a 'friend' in the Thai army, selling M16's with 5 clips for 8,000 Baht ! Apparently it's very common, he can also get the gun (forgive my ignorance) that has a grenade shooter underneath, machine gun and grenade launcher in one, all this is for info only, no I won't get involved helping anybody obtain a weapon or pass on any details. Just demonstrating obtaining a serious weapon in Thailand is inexpensive and relatively simple, that said it's also illegal so highly unrecomended.

Found a street with mrs that has many gun-shops, in Bangkok, she spoke to the Taxi driver and he knew where it was.

Saw plenty of semi automatic pistols, even came across some Remington 870 12g pump action with riot barrel, good for what you want that's if you can get one.

Best ammo would be buck shot, that would sort out any problems you have

Double ought or slugs will also do it.

I personally like shotgun shells loaded with rock salt. It won't kill them but it will certainly make their life miserable for a few days.

In my experience weapons/guns are trouble someone always gets hurt and that brings more trouble. IMHO civilians should not have weapons if you are in a situation where you are considering a weapon for home security I would move to a better safer area.

Or buy a Pit-bull far more effective and gratifying for owner and dog against home intruders.

Meaty has the best idea. Tazers are the best entertainment, guns leave a mess to clean up and you might be on the receiving end after you come home late drunk on you ass with pussy on your breath. At least with a tazer you will just have the shit shocked out of you. This is my favorite taser video.

First time I've read a post about someone feeling unsafe that I recall, but maybe it's been mentioned before, I think pepper spray has been talked about, mostly how ineffective it is, it's available in LOS?
