National Geographic 21st Century Sex Slaves

It offers good insight, but more importantly it brings to the forefront that these Eastern Europeans are not here through choice, they are being trafficked, against their will, and forced into selling themselves.
The overall program is reasonably balanced which lends weight to its arguments in my opinion.
I was shocked to see a Russian hooker delivered to a hotel in Pattaya and the punter was charged only 1,500 Baht for ST !
Its worth watching and may make you reconsider your preferences.
It was also good to see a team of dedicated Thai Police, whose identities were hidden, a specialist team set up to deal with high level crimes and work undercover.
But overall it was saddening, that despite their efforts, the program did nothing to affect the trade here in Thailand or protect the victims, it merely raised awareness of their plight.
I'm all for P4P through choice, but this forced/coerced/tricked stuff is wrong in my book.

I haven't watched the full video yet but from what I saw it looked to be sensationalism at it's finest.

Yes I saw it here on National Geographic it was announced as a documentary over forced prostitution in thailand. So I was pleasantly suprised it was over foreign women. This is a big problem here in europe now [ so we are told ]and although at the beginning they say ' most women in thailand work in the industry of their own free will but due to insufficient funds they have no other choice. Well im also totally against forced prostitution but cannot help feel that really they would like to see
all prostitution done away with. There is no way to stop this though unless the girls come forward and the culprits get real sentencing.
I never go near the eastern european women here in amsterdam most are trafficed and I prefer the south americans. It as shame though as these hartless bastards are basically giving amunition for rights groeps to attack normal prostitution.
Yes some things dont add up also but this is how they score points and get news coverage.

about the documentary I agree that it is happening in Thailand and even after this truth is on air and now also on you tube nothing has changed in that scene
IMHO do they want mongers to engage Thai ladies as they are in this industry by choice and do not enjoy with Uzbeks as they are slaves

My opinion is different to yours, I know the area very well, it seemed very factual to me, very honest, perhaps the snippet you saw was of the elite thai team shooting automatic rifles on a range, yes that was done for viewers, but the actual story, the people involved and the situation, all seemed very real and portrayed in a fair light.

... I am uncertain how someone, by just filming the story, can really sensationalize something as abhorrent and soulless as human trafficking... just by itself, human trafficking is pretty inhumane, ugly stuff.

It's been my experience that most "documentaries", particularly when dealing with the topics of prostitution, are based on a very small snippet of truth, and generally cater to vast stereotypes, misinformation, and sensationalism and emotion in order to tell their story.
I really wish someone would, someday, produce a more realistic documentary about Bangkok, but I don't see that happening.

The camera panned for faces who had belief on them....few did.
But the rape theme continued.

My point is this.
Human traffic buys production costs.( TV )
There is no question half truths get used.
Otherwise it won't sell....
So they hit hard the red lights and neon themes
Then staged and altered to suit.
I believe woman are lured into maybe contract type arrangements.
I believe the bases of the story, but having watched it all, saw a lot of dubious at best stage managed extras.
When I take a Russian to the room it's usually very clear it's free will, and any hint at a outsider would terminate the transaction.
Infact given they usually knock off the voBKa and drink it freely...laughter...strip...and seem happy, I cant in my instances deduct any dark sinister deals. But I get mine at discos....the dogs on Soi 3 didn't cut it.
Sex tourist make for TV.....
I could get a crew and pay numerous girls with faces blurred to say stuff.
Pay Pattaya police to kick in a door or two.....let me ride with them...for enough money.
I could make faces in cars as my face shows anticipation and tension at what's to come.
Film arrested Russian hookers and pay the cops to make them say anything.
Then edit it and sell it to various media outlets and again split the proceeds with the players.
Look more than likely this documentary started with some leads and creditable stuff.
Even based with real traffic victims and real squads....but the extra spices were evident in my book.
I just don't get too overwhelmed with empathy for Russian hookers, they are big girls....Bangkok is big it's easy to disappear then go to an embassy.
But I agree human traffic exists......just not on Soi cowboy where some snippets had us believe was the venue location in one shot.
Neon and serious tones blurred faces and a lot of stereotypical claims.
The cafe and shadow man of the night..
