I saw the movie, unfortunately It is true, but not just in thailand, human trafficing is the world wide problem.
personally, I prefer free ladies, like most thai ladies becuz you can see some kind of depression in eyes of slave ladies :-(
There are many uzbeks in thailand that they are not slave & they work for themselves. But it's hard to find out they are slave or not. The best sign of free uzbek is in their hand bags : the passport !!
So if the lady refuse to go out in daylight & say no to come outside of city with you for a short trip, be sure she is a slave, and the best way to fight with human slavery is "ignoring her"!

Considering it was shot in 2009, and there was the reference to some of the players being to big to go after, this documentary accomplished zip, zero.
There was never anyone prosecuted for trafficing, and no one was stopped from recruiting these girls in their home country. One small time apartment was raided, and there wasn't even enough evidence to hold anyone longer than a few hours, yet a police report was filed, this being basically the highlight of the film....hahahahahahaha.
This was a very poorly done documentary. There was no closure in any of it, and unlike the documentaries that have been done on exotic animal trafficking here, there has been no reduction in human trafficking in the area documented, unlike the Chatuchak documentaries. Now animal, and parts smuggling is constantly busted at the airport, and large quanity shipments are targetted meaning the big players are taking heat.
To correctly document how Bangkok really is would get you killed before you made it to the airport. The police act harshly to something that would cause them to loose face, and that they couldn't deny because of the film documenting it. It doesn't take much understanding to realize why someone hasn't documented something as easy to record as traffic stop bribery.
With all the budding Thai college video students dealing with controversial subjects, none are stupid enough to go after police corruption, and there are plenty of opportunities for them to film, there is even the technology here to do it undercover cheaply, but they don't. It doesn't take much to understand why.
There have been a few clips done on the cigarette police, but they aren't really cops so the violence toward the photographers didn't get out of hand, but it was implied.

I think it was shot this year, there were shots of the newly opened Prestige Hotel (March of this year) at the corner of soi 3/1. And also the Dubai Shisha restaurant which was opened late last year.

Checked out the Rajah hotel with one of the more prominent members of the forum last night (he shall remain nameless) and there were actually quite a few happy-go-lucky girls with very bubbly personalities. Not something I would expect from girls here against their will and forced into sex slavery.
Hell, one even got extra excited at seeing me (handsum man) and when she was quoted having to pay 3000 baht for me she searched her whole body for some notes...unfortunately she didn't have it on her and I left empty handed.
I'm not saying this documentary is completely false...but much of it really is sensationalism. I don't have the time to pick it apart (or even finish it, for that matter) right now but when I get back from the LOS I'll do a proper analysis of it and help out you less informed gentlemen come to the simple conclusion I came to within the first 7 minutes of viewing.

I think it's easier to pretend and continue than to accept and change.
Nobody wants to think they're damaging someone by their actions, so its easier to pretend its all rubbish. Its when you start believing the fantasy is real.

Ok let's take this one step at a time.
First, I ( if we seem to be addressing me) am close to 50.
And I agree with your points on marriage...albeit my wife's were not young maidens.....my last 38 years old....so 12 years difference.
However, in saying this....some marriages where considerable age differences exist, have worked....to initially begin perhaps as dependencies, then evolving.
Grant that I have seen a lot of Thailand and in the rural setting, many pairs of retired men in ( as you discribed 60s) with woman of 30 odd in their tenth year or more of marriage.....successfully.
Marriage in Thailand is not always just about love.
Sometimes it doesn't even exist.
Sometimes, gratitude, and friendship, partnership, metamorphosis into deeper bonds in time.
Far from the rhetoric of what's said I share your views on the "" other stuff""... I am very far away from Gulliable.....which takes many years and sometimes heartaches.
I agree on the Thai man drink Whiskey routine....that's touted as a silly excuse to seek western men.
But let me say this.
I have lived in the villages...not for weeks but months at a time.
There is an element of truth that often some Thai men are knocking up girlfriends and /or young wife's....and hitting the piss.
I would say its less than 20%....but that's a bad number.
It ain't 3% or 5 % it's triple that at least.
Sometimes the claims in individual cases are real.
I have seen these woman take buses and in the pouring rain bid farewell to family through bus windows crying heading for Bangkok, with a Thai wife of mine saying ""not think too much""... Is ok.
So first...let me say how fast you are to judge us here.
If you want or choose to believe "" obvious drama "" shows such as this.
Don't support that view with personal attacks.
I have nil doubt the disco Russians I have engaged with we're not trafficked.
It's actually naive to think there is no incentive for them to come.
BK himself has expressed at times here the expensive costs involved in buying them drinks and procuring their services.
My last one cost me a bomb ( when you include drinks)
Your efforts to stoop to labelling us as denial users of slave woman is at best reprehensible without detail.
But given you bought such a transparent show...it's forgivable.
You seem to me to be a man that cares...even if the truth gets in the way sometimes.
I can assure you many woman in Bangkok sitting in the expensive venues tonight with eastern European blood and looking for Johns do so freely.
And they do make money...make no mistake.
I commend you in spirit however misguided.
Which is why such program's are repugnant....
If someone like yourself get sucked in.
