Mr Alan
I just spent 4 weeks in BKK in August. The Nancy Chandler Map (July 2003 version) looked pretty accurate to me while I was there, as good as any other map I have seen. I just compared it to the SmartMap Webpages (which is a bit difficult to use for the inexperienced), and it is very close, if not the same as the Nancy Chandler Map for the Sukhumvit area that I just looked at. http://www.mappointasia.com/webpages/online/htm/online.htm

Don't be fooled by the fact that the Nancy Chandler Map looks like it is drawn freehand, it is quite accurate. In any event, it seems rather juvenile to claim that someone is mentally ill over a disagreement about the accuracy of maps. If the Nancy Chandler is not exactly to scale, it is not very far off.

Mr Alan
fastmover,

I would never be so presumptuous as to tell someone else what a comfortable hotel is. I left that up to sputnik. As I said, the places he mentioned are about the same distance from Times Square, so I agree with you that he should pick the hotel and location he likes best.

Despite the fact that the Nancy Chandler Map is considered a tourist map, and I don't particularly care for the colors, fonts, and artsy feel of the map, it does have hotels and restaurants clearly marked in their correct location. That makes it valuable to me. But I also use the online map mentioned in the previous post.

Qote Mr. Alan."Don't be fooled by the fact that the Nancy Chandler Map looks like it is drawn freehand, it is quite accurate. Mr. Alan

'Drawn freehand'
'Pretty accurate'
'Not very far off'
'not exactly'
'merely mentally ill'

All the same buddy!
Not 100%.
Just in the general area.

Minder
Sputnik? You still there.

Like you I am not a Bangkok local - reading all this and based on my visits to Sukhumvit and on a few other factors I'd say Grand President Soi 11.

In the humid atmosphere of Bangkok Soi 22 is too far away no matter what anyone says (I've stayed in Soi 22 twice and it houses one of my all time favorite restaurants the Raam Derm). You will have to back-track to the nearest sky-train at Phrom Phong and then you will still have a short walk to Times square from Asok.

Get the main location right and worry about where to have breakfast etc once there. Plenty of choices. Oh yeah, best maps of Bangkok in my experience are found in the Lonely Planet (condensed) Guide to Bangkok.

I would agree with Minder.  I have stayed in both GP and Admiral Suites. I thought Admiral was better but it is a long way from Suk and Sky Train even taking shortcut through Imperial Queens Park. GP is right in the heart of the action and close to Suk and Sky Train.

Just my thoughts...Have stayed for many times (Approx. 50) at the Royal President. Sometimes for a day, sometimes for a few weeks or even a few months. Have to admit that this is very good quality for money. Work myself in the high-end hospitality industry and think that the quality for money in the Royal is as good as it gets. Am lucky with many nice upgrades and pay normaly around B1700 for the larger of the studios. Not bad at all...! Do not know why so many comments about GP and the RP beng ignored. Soi 15 is not so bad at all, 3 minutes to Suk. Only negative is that at present more and more Japanese are residing at the RP and often it is now fully booked. (That has to be a good sign..!)Previously I was a normal walk in without problems, can not do this anymore...

Any easy way to walk to Royal President ? If I remember correctly, you have to walk on the soi 15, a very busy soi during day time and these crazy drivers don't even care about you. There is no sidewalk.

Regarding Admiral Suites, any recommandation for having breakfast in the soi? By the way, how much is the breakfast at Admiral?

Jeff,

Sidewalk is pretty limited size, but existing. New prices at the moment. B 1400 for the studio. Can't really beat that easily at other mentioned places.....
